Thanks for the review! I am waiting to hear if the white one, despite being less masculine, might not show off fingerpints so badly. It would match my macbook too, and we are all about the accessorization, right? =p

We only got demos in black and let me tell you it is a CSI's wet dream. I like the look of the black, but I hate how it shows every smudge. I do like the way it sits in your hand and it feels less boxy than the current one.

The screen looks exactly like the current one as far as resolution and color.

I played around with the GPS and it worked as advertised. I couldn't take the phone out of the store obviously, so I didn't get to see how well it followed me around.

The App Store is loaded on the phone, but when you click on it it says the store is not available in your country.

The speaker is much improved and sounded much better playing music through it than the old one.

I still want one, but I wouldn't wait in line for more than a hour for it. It's nice, but it's not that big of a step up from the current one. What I really want is the 2.0 software. The 3g and GPS is nice, but the App Store and mobileme are going to be the big things.

Thanks J
I like black in spite of the prints. White plastic discolors with age, so pick your demon.

David Pogue mentions improved voice quality -

'The third improvement is audio quality, which has taken a gigantic step forward. You sound crystal clear to your callers, and they sound crystal clear to you. In fact, few cellphones sound this good'

Re: It's Official: iPhone 3G at 8 a.m. July 11th

I guess I needed to read the fine print before I even bothered going to the AT&T store. I signed up with my current AT&T contract 6-8 months ago, not an iPhone, so apparently I'm not eligible for the $199/$299 price. I'd have to pay $499 for the 16 gig phone I want. I didn't realize this before I went to the store, so I ended up wasting 10 minutes of my time and 10 minutes of the store salespersons time finding this out Sucks too, but I guess I'll just wait until my current contract is over. I'm sure something way better will be out by then anyway. Poo!

It seems lame that if I already have an AT&T plan, I can't get the iPhone at the lower subsidized price with a new contract. Maybe I'll just get an iPod Touch...
