All titles included in the collection feature original theatrical trailers as well as still and advertising galleries. Also included is The Era of Chan, a 30 minute documentary celebrating the legacy of the Chan series at Fox. Great to see them finishing the series in style!

I hope we get the Monograms somewhere down the line (Warner's willing)

I am really delighted that Fox saw the CHAN series through to the end. I'll look forward to completing my set of Fox CHANs.

Furthermore, it was just a couple of years ago when this forum was up in arms with Fox about not releasing Chan titles on dvd and were blaming Murdoch's wife for it.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: The Charlie Chan Collection Volume Five

Thanks Ron. Yes, Fox continues to impress with all of their releases.

All of these films are entertaining and some of the best written films in the series are in this bunch. Great collection of character actors too (Ricardo Cortez, George Reeves, Henry Daniell, Lionel Atwill, Leo G. Carroll etc.).

The NY Post was the one that printed the story that Mrs. Murdoch was the one who had the films removed from the Fox Movie Channel. Then Fox Home Entertainment came on this forum and said the films were staying in the vault because they weren't profitable to release.

In retrospect that might have been the best thing to happen to these films because once that statement made it around the internet and into classic movie magazines (Classic Images et al) consumers wrote a ton of letters to Fox requesting their release.

To their credit, the current team at Fox Classics listened and released first class sets of all the Chan films plus many other highly regarded box sets; some of which were relased on artistic merit more than commercial appeal.

No offense against the wonderful team at WHV, but at the midway piont of 2008 Fox is perhaps the leading contender for "Studio of the Year" honors.

artwork for the set can be found here at DVD Times.

Mike, now that Fox has completed their run of Chan films, I'd be willing to bet that Warner puts a set to market sometime in 2009 assuming that their search for better prints found success. There's quite a dropoff in production quality, but I enjoy the presence of Mantan Moreland who, stereotypes aside, I consider to be a very talented and gifted comedian.

That's one fat box - I would love it if these were thinpacks but it's looking like keep cases.

Any bets on when a "Complete Chan at Fox" box will be released?

Ditto for me on Moreland - and the same might be said for Stepin' Fechit as well.

Thinpacks would have been nice for all the Fox boxes..they take up lots of room. At the same time WHV has seemingly gone back to keep cases from thin packs so maybe consumer reaction was negative? Maybe if the "Complete" set you reference gets released they'll make the conversion?

I was thinking the same thing, being fox when the first set of Xfiles came out big and bulky, but the question with fox distributing MGM, is will they do a complete chan set and include the items in the Chanathology box?

It's four discs - same size as the other boxes.

It's not even close. Sony is way ahead of Warners this year, too. WB has really slipped, although I'm sure it's not the fault of the folks at WHV, who usually do a great job. I'm sure the money men told them they had to scale back their releases. I'm just afraid the good ol' days of WHV DVDs are over, never to return.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: The Charlie Chan Collection Volume Five

This is trivial minutiae I know but has it confirmed for certain that this is a 4 disc set (which the PR says) as opposed to an 8 disc set (which the original info indicated and every major e-tailer still shows)?

There is some validity in asking because certain of these e-tailers charge more for shipping an 8 disc set than they do a 4 disc set. Logic tells me this is a four disc set but the CPA in me doesn't want to pay for 8 disc shipping (Then again, Fox has been known to have errors in their press releases.)

I called Fox's Home Entertainment customer service today and they were unaware of such a set being released so they were unable to state how many discs. Apparently if an item isn't available for order on the foxstore.com website it doesn't exit.
