Saw V (Yes..#5!!) - Page 2

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

strange that the movie starts in two weeks yet we still don't have a full trailer?

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

I could be wrong but I don't think there was a trailer for Saw IV either. I thought that between their desire for secrecy and the post production schedules on the movies have cut it so close to the release date that they didn't even have time to 'bother' with a trailer.

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

I've seen TV spots but that's it.

These films don't even really need a trailer, they have a built-in and established fan base that knows that a new Saw film comes out every October so TV spots is all the studio needs, really.

There are also rumors that the new guys in charge at Lionsgate HATE horror films and are wanting to see them fail.

What was incomprehensible about Saw IV? Once you understand that the events of Saw IV and Saw III were happening during the same period of time, it seems pretty straight-forward from there.

Given Lion's Gate's success in horror, that's pretty ironic. They're branching out but I don't think they should be thinking about dropping a proven money maker of a genre quite yet.

EDIT: I'm willing to bet that Saw V will do better box office than W. And that's coming from a huge Oliver Stone fan who always sees his movies.

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

They've been big in the horror genre the last couple of years, too.

One film I know they dumped and left to fend for itself is Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train, by all rights it should have had a wide release but now is playing on Fearnet OnDemand even before a DVD and BD release.

Yes and many of their direct to DVD titles have been canceled. I'm on their screener list and can't tell you how many horror titles have been pulled since May when the rumored "trouble" started (with MIDNIGHT as you mentioned).

Hmm I'd want the heads of my company to be behind whatever makes the company money. And the Saw series has been doing just that.

Horror films are an embarrassment to those "higher ups". Lionsgate is only known for horror so I'd guess the new people want to change that. There was a lot of other things behind MIDNIGHT's issues but there's no doubt that they are releasing fewer horror titles over the past few months. Their direct to DVD line were always money makers but they've stopped as well.

I remember how embarrassed Paramount was towards the Friday the 13th franchise despite the amounts of money they made off of it. Ironic that after selling it to New Line, they now got back involved with the remake that's coming.

If they want to run a little boutique, independent, "starving artist" studio, why don't they just start one from scratch? Why ruin a profitable studio just because you don't happen to like their most successful genre?

I agree that it's odd to have CEO's that don't seem to want money or success.

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

No one really has discussed the film itself here so I guess i'll post. I just watched it on BD having missed it in theaters...whew, what a horrific but intriguing ride!

There are some truly messed up traps in this one! The first one which they've dubbed the 'Pendulum Trap' will haunt me for days...yuck!

Love how they tie each film together, this series of films has got more brains in it's head than most horror films now days which is something to be appreciated.

They each weave such an intricate web of depravity that must keep the writing teams working round the clock to keep it all straight lol.

Can't wait for the next one.

Re: Saw V (Yes..#5!!)

I'm just catching up with this on DVD as well. A couple questions that occurred to me:

1. In the opening Pendulum trap, why is it Jigsaw's voice in the video presenting the "rules" when it's not a real Jigsaw trap? Shouldn't it have been Hoffman's voice as on the tape at the end with the Coffin trap?

2. When the two remaining people are in the arm/saw trap at the end, why do they both put tourniquets on their arms? In the interest of time, wouldn't you want the blood flowing as fast as possible?

Overall, I thought it was another worthy entry in the Saw series. They may be on their fifth film, but the plotting and twists are still far superior to most modern thrillers.
