BD titles that output 1080i/720p w/component video

It's my understanding that not all BD can be viewed in HD using component video. If this is true, how can I find out (other than buying them) which titles will?

All Blu-ray titles should be viewable at 1080i / 720p via component until the studios implement the Image Constraint Token on titles.

The titles will have nothing to do with this. There may be one or two BD players that output only 1080p, but I’m not aware of them.

Most (if not all) of the BD players will output 1080i and 720p, even if the software is in 1080p.

So I wouldn't really be wasting my money if I bought a blu ray player and used it on my "non hdmi" tv?

Thats not what he is talking about. The Image Constraint Token will force the blu-ray player to reduce the resolution of the image through the component connections regardless of the resolution of the original disc.

Not now, but in the future you might have to upgrade your TV to one with HDCP compliant connections.

ICT may turn out to be an issue in the future, but right now there is no issue from a software perspective.

Personally I think that this is a bogeyman (who of course could turn out to be real). The OP’s question was to what titles could not be viewed in HD via component cables. At this point not a software issue, though I wait to be corrected (at least I’m using component cables and have had not titles that won’t display in HD—nor the suspicion of any that will not). If some come up, then I’ll need to invest in some kind of HDMI switch.

I don't know of any HDMI switches that convert from HDMI to component if that is what you are thinking. There is one that converts analog audio to an HDMI signal, but I haven't seen any that go the other way.

The HD Fury converts from HDMI/DVI(HDCP) to RGB, if you can use that. Or you could use an RGB-to-component converter after the HD Fury. May cost a few hundred $, but could be better than buying a new TV for some. Many good comments on these in the forums.

Neither do I Doug. I wrote unclearly as my problem is that my display has only one HDMI input (already being used) so I’d need to get a new AVR with multiple HDMI inputs or just a switch that would accept several HDMI inputs.

But I would imagine that by the time ICT is implemented (if ever) the problem will be moot.
