Dolby TrueHD from HD-A2

Hi,

I have a new Sony receiver (STR-DA5300ES) that is great. I have a new Panasonic Blu-Ray hooked to it and all works great. I also have a Toshiba HD DVD player (HD-A2). The documents claim the plater will send Dolby TrueHD through the HDMI to a receiver for decoding, which my reciever does. However, I only get standard Dolby Digital or DTS playback--no Dolby TrueHD from the A2. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

Re: Dolby TrueHD from HD-A2

HD-A2 won't bitstream to the receiver for the receiver to decode. However it will decode the TrueHD internally and send the decoded output as multi-ch PCM to the receiver. So your TrueHD indicator on the receiver won't light up, but you should be able to get the multich PCM to show up. Your HDMI on the A2 should be set to "auto" IIRC.

Thank you for your help. One quick question--do I need to change any settings on the receiver or leave it on auto?
