MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray - Page 7

isn't it plainly obvious as to why these are bundled and released
this way.
It's obvious to almost all of us, Tony.

To me, the best solution would be to box all the Connery's and Lazenby together and label the set as the Bond years from A to B. Moore's run would be the next set running from years C to D. Dalton and Brosnan would be boxed as years E to F. Craig's run would be from year G to the present.

People would then be able to get what they want, assuming they want to buy all of the movies in a given run of years.
Well said!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

For Your Eyes Only (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Live and Let Die (James Bond) [Blu-ray]
Thunderball (James Bond) [Blu-ray]

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

I personally would have loved period boxes.

The number of people who like Moore's run is probably close to that of Connery's for instance.
You can take me out of that equation.
But most probably, I would have bought them all anyway.

There is only one "Bond"!!! :-)

Collectors would arrange it chronologically.
Marketers would arrange it for money. :-0

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

Put me in the Moore Bond area.

first Bond film i saw in a theater was Live and Let Die and it blew me away.

Never knew anything about Connery 'till years after.

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

I just wish they'd announce wave #2 already! Then the third and final wave could coincide with the BD release of QOS next spring.

I'm really dying to get Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, OHMSS, The Spy Who Loved Me, The Man With the Golden Gun and Goldeneye.

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

If anyone's interested, the current six 007 Blu-ray titles are all on sale this week at Circuit City for $17.99 each.

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

I'm still reeling from the fact that Amazon had them for $6.66 each a couple of weeks ago! I'm totally ruined for all blu-ray sales now.

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

Personally, I'm waiting it out until all 20 MGM/Fox Bond films become available as one set.

I found a posting about it in the "bargains & deals" forum (I wouldn't have known, otherwise).

Amazon had a selection of blu-rays that you could choose from (6 of which were the Bond blu-rays). At one point, most of the Bonds were $17.49 (a couple were still $23) but finally they all went to $17.49. With a purchase of any 6 blu-rays you got $50 off the 6, then there was some other kind of 'best value' discount which took off another $15, and then you got free shipping. So, it came out to $6.66 each. There was an even better deal if you bought 10, you got $100 off (which I assume is what TonyD did), but I didn't see 10 titles that I wanted.

Well Damn! I wish I knew about that.

Re: MGM Press Release: 007 on Blu-ray

I was tempted by the Amazon deal and lost out to temptation. So, with the Panny Blu-Ray player on sales at Costco, I'm now Blu-Ray.

I wrote a couple years back that Bond going Blu-Ray would probably get me ... and it did. Can't wait to watch Dr. No. It looked amazing in SD so my hopes are quite high for that title.

Amazon may do something similar again- just keep checking the 'bargains' forum. These specials aren't well advertised on the Amazon site (no wonder!)

I just bought the first 4 Connery Bonds on Blu Ray, but now I'm stuck because YOLT isn't out.  For someone who hasn't seen the older Bonds, I'm trying to watch them in chronological order.  Does anyone know when they will be releasing the next batch of Bond Blu Rays?

I bought the first four Connery films individually. It cost more that way but I didn't want to encourage the piggy-backing of titles I don't want, and indeed few people want.

We're all waiting on You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever.

I seriously doubt they will be released on Blu-ray until a new Bond film is completed and slated for theatrical release.

The frustrating thing is You Only Live Twice is my favourite 60's Bond film. One of John Barry's best scores, fantastic theme song by Nancy Sinatra, sumptuous photography by Freddie Young, it would have made a fabulous blu-ray. [sniff]

YOLT was recently on Comcast cable's On Demand (Impact) in HD for free. Unfortunately, it had the Impact "bug" at times in the lower right hand corner. I did a Hauppauge PVR capture though as it may be some time before it ever appears on Blu Ray.

I was able to use my hauppage HD PVR to record YOLT
and OHMSS when they were on up in Canada and convert
to AVCHD DVD-9 and they both look spectacular
in 1080i and DD5.1 in 2.35:1

I have them in HD from iTunes and they both look great. I feel they will both make great Blu-ray's especially OHMSS.

I realize the Ultimate Edition DVD's don't have the presence of Blu-ray but a Blu-ray player brings out the best in them. The UE of You Only Live Twice looks lovely and the soundtrack is bright and punchy coming out of the Blu-ray player, if that will tide you over until 2012 or whenever.

With the film franchise essentially on hold at this point I wouldn't expect Blu releases to halt at all. That's a release strategy that makes sense with a steady film series, and will cost you otherwise.

Its been several years since a high-profile Bond video game was released, but new-comer to the license Activision has one planned for this fall. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Blu-ray synergy there.

I don't think anything is going to happen until something is worked out with regard to the sale of MGM.

However, MGM continues to release Blu-rays via Fox (the latest announcements for August include Bull Durham, Blood Simple, and Escape from New York), I continue to hope that we'll get something with Bond for the holiday season.

With any luck, we'll see the release of more Bond blus when the special edition of Quantum of Solace is released this summer.

A new Bond novel is scheduled to be released next year. Possible tie-in there.

I'm thinking this is also the case. I guess the rumor is no more of the films until Bond 23. It's going to be a while with the MGM mess.

I did see MGM is reissuing Never Say Never Again as a BD / DVD combo. However I still can't bring myself to buy that one. Don't care for it. I have all of the other Bond releases though.

Jeffrey Deaver? Wow. I'm impressed.

I like what he says in the interview.

Sounds like a Bond novel to look forward to.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the most potent Bond novel since Colonel Sun (1968).

I loved Devil May Care and will be excited to read Project X as well..

That being said, I would much rather have the other 9 Bond films on Blu ray! Let's Go MGM!!!!
