I’m quite a newbie at this as this will be my first LCD mounting. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, advice, or tips. I just purchased a Samsung 26 LCD TV (LNA450) and am looking to mount it with some sort of wall arm mount.
Quick background, I live in NYC, and the building is probably about 60 to 70 years old. It’s been renovated before, so it has drywall rather than plaster. The 2 potential wall locations are, 1. a wall that faces outside, i.e., brick on the other side, 27” wide as it hits a window, 2. a wall that has another apartment unit on the other side, 18” wide, as it is slightly elevated from the rest of wall about 1” .
First problem I ran into is I can’t locate the studs in the wall. I’ve tried numerous times without success in the 2 potential locations of the mounting. I’m starting to wonder if there are no studs, as the 2 walls are in the corner of the room.
Now, I’ve read that it’s probably not a good idea to mount an lcd tv without mounting the wall mount to a stud. Is this written in stone or is there any given flexibility depending on the size and weight of the tv?
The tv only weighs 18 pounds without the stand. Is it possible to mount the arm using drywall anchors, would that be enough to support the weight and pressure of the tv and mount?
Someone suggested getting a piece of plywood, mounting it onto the wall securely, using like 20 or so anchors, to spread the pressure of the weight. Then mount the arm to the plywood (paint it so it doesn’t look noticeable). Is this an option?
