I think everybody should E-mail Sony and praise them for the great work they've been doing with these Stooge sets. I gave them such heat about the roughshod collections in the past, I felt they should be complimented and encouraged about these collections. They're beautifully remastered and resonably priced. And who knows? Maybe they'll start throwing in bonus stuff when we get to the later Shemp shorts.
Wow! Can you imagine a collection entitled "The Besser Years"?

Ive seen most of the shemp shorts in my life, but im mostly looking forward to the besser shorts , because ive only seen 2 or 3 of them.Cant wait till volume 3!!!

I also gave them a lot of heat for those terrible old sets, but this new series is great. Great restoration, price, packaging and speed. Way to go Sony.

Someone asked which set to buy....that's hard to put a finger on. Volume 2 and 3 will contain some of the most popular Curly films, but as you will discover, the Shemp films (to come later) are just as funny, and in many cases even funnier. The Joe series have their moments & certainly deserve being released even if they are not as good as the Curly and Shemp years.

Count me in as another fan of these sets. While I'd love some extras, Sony has put 100% of their effort into the terrific restorations and remasters. Just having these shorts would be good enough, but I'm surprised by how good these look and sound.

Re: Vol 2, I'm watching 1 or 2 shorts each night and thoroughly enjoying it. I think it was Joe K who said that spacing these out is his preferred method and I agree. Watching a bunch back to back gets a bit repetitious but in small doses they are quite funny.

Agree on the high quality of the presentation; I wish all vintage material could look this detailed and sharp. I hope consumers support these releases so that all the shorts will get released and Sony will market more of their classic catalog.

They haven't yet tapped into their B films (Jungle Jim, Boston Blackie, etc.) although some are rumored to be coming. The absence of these films from the DVD market is a glaring ommission IMO.

We finished vol. 2 tonight, watching the last three episodes from 1939. I hadn't seen Oily to Bed, Oily to Rise in quite some time. A few of the splices I saw tonight left me wondering if they were there because 1) the film was quite bad at those points and a splice was necessary, or because 2) the quality was so very good that I could actually see them now whereas I could not before. Bring on vol. 3!

This will be a major veer off topic, but I think Columbia lost the rights to the Jungle Jim movies.

I haven't watched this short yet, but if I recall this short was re-made with Shemp using some stock footage from the original Curly version. I wonder if this might be the reason for the splices that you saw.

Thanks for that information. That very well could be the case. I didn't realize that (about the Shemp version). Hopefully in a few years, we'll be able to own all of the Shemps and check it out.

I misspoke slightly! That short was remade as "Oil's Well That Ends Well" with Joe Besser in 1958. I'm almost 100% certain that multiple clips from the first were used in the remake though.

Okay, thanks. I still plan on picking up the Besser shorts if and when they become available in this new Sony collection.

I dont know if anyone realizes this, but if they continue to release these shorts in the 3 month timeframe that they started doing,we will have all 190 shorts on dvd by 2010 - mid 2010 at the latest !!!!!! That is pretty cool.

Wow they're burning V.3 out only a couple months after 2. I just finished watching V2. We oughta have the whole set relatively soon!
