Are you joking? Where did you hear this? I never thought this show was truly about the swinging, but about the effects it has the these peoples lives during that time period of 1976.

I sure hope it continues on CBS.

Re: Swingtown

I enjoyed the finale very much, I think that
it had a somewhat more serious tone than
most of the other episodes... but overall,
this show was like a breath of fresh air,
a breezy, light drama, with good tunes, fun
memories and performances that were not
bad, either.
< I loved the part tonight, with 'The Joker's Wild!'
game show on the TV!>
I hope that it will return,(but all I seemed to see
during the show were in-house commercials for
CBS, and CBS-Paramount TV On DVD ,
Time-Life stuff and that's about it)!
apparently, no advertisers wanted to set foot
here.
I thought that it was a good show!

I read a great number of the entertainment wires.

Here's one:
CBS swings — fully clothed

A bit of sleuthing revealed that "Swingtown," from "Big Love" director Alan Poul and executive producer Mike Kelley, originally was pitched to pay cable networks HBO and Showtime, logical destinations because of the relaxed standards about nudity and sex. But HBO passed, and Showtime wanted to delay production.

Here's another:

Sources also said the pitch to cable networks is that with the show’s concept, a freeing from the Federal Communications Commission regulations that restrict broadcast networks could allow it to really grow creatively and from a buzz standpoint.

Re: Swingtown

I have to give credit to Brain K, I did some reading and found out that Swingtown was originally pitched to cable TV and would have been more explicit. A cross between Boogie Nights and The Wonder Years. (edit; opps, I see that we posted at the same time. Thanks Brian. That was very enlightening!)

Though I liked the way it turned out for broadcast TV. I agree with the other posters, well acted out drama that I felt worked well examining the impact of the social and sexual revolution of the 1970's and it didn't need to go the explicit side to do it. I enjoyed the use of the music a lot and the storylines and actors are engaging. The recreation of the time period was for the most part pretty well done too!

The finale was well done and it was a good balance of leaving it so it's not totally left you hanging if the series does not get renewed. I was surprised that Susan went to Roger's hotel room. Maybe she won't betray her best friend Janet and just went there to talk. I like the resolution of Trina's news to Tom.
