You're correct, it always pays to compare. When I placed my order I wasn't aware that DVD Planet had started their sale, but I did compare each title with Amazon. Even before factoring in the NYS sales tax I would now have to pay to Amazon, DD's 20% off prices were lower than Amazon's prices.

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

Deep Discount is offering HTF Members the 20% off. Use code HTF01. This is good through the 22nd of June.

Is there a link, to connect to DD through HTF?

There's a banner ad in the Bargains & Deals folder.

Is it for expedited ship, or reg/std free ship?

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

I don't think the shipping affects the discount.

Blu-Ray prices are still mediocre even with the discount, but there are some decent deals to be had on HD-DVDs.

Right. I have actually found Deep Discount items ship FASTER during the sale, probably because they staff up in anticipation for the demand. (Or perhaps because postal workers have to take crystal meth to keep up! - sort of like the turtle in Bye Bye Birdie)

Codes I've successfully used so far:

USATODAY
PRICESEARCH
HTF01

And these scam claims are ignorant whining. I just picked up a 15-hour BBC documentary on popular music called All You Need Is Love that retails for $99 for $49. You'll never find that less anywhere else except used.

The Invaders season 1 box set ... for $21.44. Good luck beating that anywhere new, including 40% off (retail) at Borders.

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

I´ve been taken more easy with my BD orders, but this month will be different.

Just picked up:
-The Orphanage [Blu-ray Disc]
-Bonnie and Clyde [Blu-ray Disc]
-Michael Clayton [Blu-ray Disc]
-The Golden Compass [Blu-ray Disc]

Original: 110$. With 20% off = 88$ (+shipping for me, since I live in Europe).

Not cheap by any means (all titles around 2$ cheaper in Amazon), but at least that "excuse" to order some movies..

HTF01 worked nicely, thanks.

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

I'm debating about the Mission Impossible box set (on Blu-ray). Anyone has a clue whether Paramount will revisit this set in the forseeable future w/ lossless audio (and maybe better PQ)? I might also go for Flags of Our Father BD -- I doubt that one will get revisited w/ lossless audio for a very long time, if ever.

Of the rest I'd likely buy, seems like DVD Planet has the better selection pricewise for me -- though not by a whole lot in most cases. Does HTF have a portal (and 20% off coupon) to DVD Planet?

Thanks.

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

Can you go back to the well more than once with this sale. Can you use different codes? The only thing i know, is they dont count pre-orders. I want to make the most of my 20%, cheap bastard that i am!

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

as long as you use a different code each time, you can place as many orders as there are codes.
And I disagree about the Bd prices. Last year when I had both Prime and the extra 10% off going at Amazon, then yes- the prices were pretty much equivilent. Now, without the extra 10% off and NYS tax on top of it, this is where I'm likely going to be getting most of my Bds from now on.

I did three different codes for three different shipments last November, so I don't think that would be a problem.

No, I dont expect them to sell at a loss, but I do expect them to be upfront about it. Perhaps a "some items excluded" disclaimer or somthing. But it does smell of "Hey! Come spend money on these slightly higher prices" used car dealings. It seems underhanded to me.

And no - most of the things dont go up. However, SOME of the things I wanted - the Godzilla box for one - *DID* go up right before hand.

It's all academic for me anyway, since with just a bit of looking around, I found everything I wanted for about 10 or 15 bucks cheaper than the DDD sale.

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

Is DVD Planet using multiple codes, or just the one? I seem to recall in the past that they only had one code, but you could use it multiple times (unlike Deep Discount).

As with anything else, you have to comparison shop and it depends upon what you're looking for.

The Blu-ray discs which I have ordered -- Butch Cassidy, Patton, 3:10 to Yuma, and There Will Be Blood -- are all cheaper at DDD than at either Amazon or DVD Planet.

Butch Cassidy -- $27.85 at DDD ($22.28 after discount), $27.95 at Amazon, $27.97 at DVD Planet

Patton -- $27.85 at DDD ($22.28 after discount), $27.95 at Amazon, $27.97 at DVD Planet

3:10 to Yuma -- $22.83 at DDD ($18.26 after discount), $22.95 at Amazon, $27.96 at DVD Planet

There Will Be Blood -- $27.85 at DDD ($22.28 after discount) $27.95 at Amazon, 27.97 at DVD Planet

DVD Planet's 20% sale makes them virtually the same on three of titles, but $4 more expensive for 3:10 to Yuma.

Parker: Very cool that DD has given the HTF its own code for use with the sale.

Does the HTF benefit in any way based on how many times the code is used?

Re: DeepDiscount 20% off sale Spring 2008

After using HTF01, and you need another code, I believe all of these work as well:

DDAF
DD1109
DVDTALK
USATODAY
NYTIMES
SUPERSALE
DDDCD
DD1110
DVDPRICESEARCH
LATIMES
ESPN
YAHOO
JIM
WGN
PRICESEARCH

Not sure why we need so many, but there they are. The best deals I could find were on HD DVD's.

I'm looking for what I consider to be non-mediocre prices, which these days are pretty much limited to HD-DVDs and secondhand BDs.

That makes sense. My point is just that as a rule DDD's BD prices are competitive with everyone else's.

I was looking at some Amazon BD's which are close to 50% off MSRP, but each one that I was interested had a comparable HD-DVD for a dollar or so more at DDD, so with the 20% off I got the HD-DVD for a couple of buck less than Amazon's sale price for the BD.

You have to keep in mind that DDD typically prices DVDs at about 30% below MSRP. When they mark a title down lower than that, they don't call it a sale price, even though that is what it is.

In the case of the Godzilla box, they had it marked down to 45% off MSRP, but when the 20% off sale began they raised it back to the regular price, which in this case is 33% off MSRP. Essentially you're complaining that they weren't willing to sell it to you for $35, which would be roughly 56% off MSRP. I don't believe that a DVD retailer is going to make much, if any, profit selling non-clearance product at 55% below MSRP.

In any event, it certainly isn't a scam. They apparently would rather do it this way instead of going through the hassle of excluding items which had been temporarily marked down.

Inventory: Ships directely from the manufacturer ???

I noticed that some DVD's have "Inventory: Ships directly from the manufacturer". I have never seen that on their site before. They don't stock it, but sell it? I guess it's shipped by a third party. Anyone have experience with this? How fast the shipping? What time frame. If I paying for IPS 2nd day will it come that fast?

Thanks, JohnF

I just got the FORD at FOX set at Costco; with coupon, it was $120!

Anyone hesitant to order HD DVDs that are listed a temporarily out of stock during DD's 20% off sale. I found 6 titles, but all are out of stock.

Hehheh... Sorry to confuse, but I was asking about DVD Planet's sale, not DDD.

Anyway, since nobody else jumped in, I guess there is none.

True that. For myself, I did some comparison shopping and ended up picking up 3:10 to Yuma for $16 shipped (new) from Amazon's marketplace. If anyone's interested, seems there were a few sellers there w/ *new* ones for roughly that price. Of course, you can probably also run out to Walmart (or similar) and pick it up for a similar price w/ the Father's Day sale going on from what I read in another thread elsewhere -- I don't live near a Walmart myself though (for better and/or worse ).

There is also an SD-DVD set of the four Rambo films that was just released.

No, DVDPlanet has only one code, 20OFFSALE. But you should be able to use that code multiple times (unlike the one-and-done DD codes).
