Exactly! Or at least choose one of the other non-Americans to level the playing field a bit.

Did they say that 2 more are eliminated next week, then the remaining go to Vegas? Will it be one elimination a week after that?

Re: Last Comic Standing...

Anyone watching LCS? I've not seen the thread active in the TV section.

I've been watching it and enjoy it more than last year: it hasn't suffered the dread multi-episode padding with D-list comics.

Who's your favorites?

Iliza Schlesinger is my pick to win. She has shown she can do top routines week after week -- no other competitor has matched her for performance. And she's funny with smart, informed, and varied humor.

Jim Tavare kills me and is a close second to Iliza. He's always funny with both low-brow and high-brow humor, conceptual jokes, puns, and even basic classics. At his best, it's like seeing comedy for the first time. And I always enjoy his cello gags.

Jeff Dye is close: he's had some very funny material: His audition bit on the Squirrelador killed me. And his winning prop-comedy challenge was superb. But overall he needs more experience and isn't as consistent as Iliza or Jim more experienced comics.

Marcus left me cold most of the time. I didn't like his impersonations, generally. But his last peformance was his best and among the best on the show at all. I was very surprised. And his PLayboy contest was fresh and was a fun win. But to me, he's too erratic and hasn't shown the consistent strength of Iliza, nor the always-on humor of Jim.

Ron G is erratic. I didn't like his semi-final Vegas routine and find him erratic, and often too slow on his pacing, overplaying his warbly voice gag. He gets some good jokes here and there, but doesn't work in general for me.

Sean Cullen: I love his clips, with his Python-esque unhinged hyperbole. But his standup routines don't work for me. He too easily moves into screechy-screaming; too bad since his normal voice is so good for comedy.

Louis Ramey is my second least favorite. He's scary. His Vegas material was misogynistic to me, and I haven't care for him much overall.

Adam Hunter I do not at all. His jokes don't connect with me. Despite his experience, he feels the most amateurish of the group, and I find his jokes to be cheap and lazy. I was disappointed he even made it to LA over some other, much funnier comics. (like the Israeli prop comic and the redneck Robin-Williams guy)

Re: Last Comic Standing...

I haven't watched the last episode yet but here are some of my comments about the contestants:

I have been pulling for Marcus ever since his Willy Wonka bit. It had me rolling. I think his impressions are pretty good but he doesn't just do impressions (that would get old).

Iliza is ok, but she isn't doing herself any favors in her little interview pieces. She comes off really bad.

I don't get Sean Cullen's humor at all.

Ron G always does the same gag with his voice. Funny once, but not after hearing variations of it over and over.

I am afraid that Jim Tavare is too subtle to win over a large crowd. I quite like him, but not sure if he is mainstream enough to win.

The others haven't really made much of an impression either way with me.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

It'll be between Marcus and Iliza, though the crowd was really into Iliza (she's just got a lot of momentum from her 2 wins in the showdowns).

Jim wasn't all that funny, but he's been funnier in past segments. Needed to use the bass more in his act last night.

Louis got long-winded and was losing my attention. He's a little too comfortable, and has lost an edginess to his performance.

Ron thinks too much of his own material, numerous funny faces does not make an act entertaining.

Adam is a 1-2 punch joke teller (one setup line, one punchline, wash rinse, repeat), not much of a funny story teller. His comedic rhythm gets a little monotonous.

Sean Cullen is too full of himself to be considered entertaining. If he could clap for himself, he would.

Marcus was funny and can go many places with his impressions, but he doesn't use them as a crutch.

Jeff was semi-funny. He's trying to be original, but it's not polished material.

Iliza was usually funny (frat-house funny), but her pacing around the stage can get old.

I love Iliza, but I think she has watched a little too much Dane Cook. She has taken some of that, and the mannerisms from him. You can't blame her as he is very successful, but to comedy fans, he is the anti-Christ.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for Iliza to win LCS next week (votes are already in the can from last night), but I don't know what it'd be like to watch her perform on stage in person as my eyes would be moving all over the place trying to keep up with her current position at any given time during the performance. I was hoping she'd dress up as the 4th Girl Next Door during their visit to Hef's mansion.

That's it. I was having that feeling, but hadn't placed it.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

Is it me or does Iliza have a nice rack?

Seriously, I thought Marcus and Louis were the best last night. I like Iliza. But, I also have been pulling for Marcus the whole time. Besides, the fact we look almost exactly alike. My wife felt Adam hurt himself with the Bush jokes every performance and she is not a Bush fan. But, it could turn off part of the voting public. And yes. Ron G doesn't know when to move on from a joke. His voice and mannerisms were getting annoying.

Finally, was it me or did those comics who got booted look really pissed? Especially, Sean Cullen?

She must have kept those falsies that were in the house as a clue earlier this season.

I was telling my wife how I didn't like the elimination method. The comedian gets up and gives their best routine for a huge, live audience in Vegas and is on live TV -- it's their dream made real. They walk off the stage on a huge emotional high. And almost immediately, Bill Bellamy, the man who is letting them taste their dreams fulfilled, tells them they're done and are out of the contest. It's an punch to the guy. Their high is instantly destroyed, dreams dashed, and they're being televised.

It's a wonder they kept it in check as much as they did. Because you can see these people being torn apart emotionally. The quick succession of compete and vote results is emotional sadism.

Elizabeth I thought she seemed extra...uhmm...well you answered that. (My wife liked the picture too. She was silently wondering about it too.)

Patrick - Jim used standard jokes, which surprised me. But I enjoyed his delivery, and his cello jokes.

I've never seen Dane Cook; didn't know that Iliza might be cribbing his style. Why the comedian hatred towards Cook? He seems very popular.

To me at least, he isn't funny. I think he is an awful comedian, yet a great marketer. He used MySpace like no one has, built up a huge following (mostly among college girls) and they go to see him, buy his albums, etc.

Dane is to comedy what Dave Matthews is to music. More of a party scene than an artform.

I watched his HBO special and, honestly, never laughed once.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

i like dane cook, i don't get all the hate for him he makes me laugh.
and that's something that happens very little for me and this batch of last comics standing.

i have chuckled a number of times but nothing any of these people have
said really makes me laugh.
none of them are very funny, just mildly amusing.

i've noticed the changing size of Iliza too, and the extremely tight jeans
this week.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

I was thinking the same thing, when Triumph was ripping into them…mostly for these two.

“It has been great seeing Iliza grow in the competition this year – from a C to a D cup.”

And the punch line, used more than once, of:

“Jeff Dye sucks…”

Re: Last Comic Standing...

oh ok i guess i need to watch the last episode.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. I guess we were not the only ones to notice Illiza's enhancements.

But hey, can't fault her. After all, it got her $250,000 plus a load of extra stuff. I would say it was a good call on her part.

On a different subject, did anyone else think that last night's production was terrible? It seemed like there was no rehearsal. It just seemed way off for some reason. That shadow over Joel's face during his routine was just really amateurish. It didn't help that he screwed up what would have been a good joke. LOL

Re: Last Comic Standing...

The production of most of the season has been pretty bad.

The show is all filler and little content. They spend an hour on the house section of the show (which is fine), and then they have an hour where they had three comedians do 3 minute set. Do the math. That it 9 minutes of material spread out to 60 minutes. It is a 90 minute show stretched to 2 hours.

As for the shadow on Joel, I noticed that too. It was the streamers hanging from the ceiling. I wonder if he will mock himself on THE SOUP.

I am glad Iliza won though.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

They didn't air the show in NYC area. It showed it on the Directv guide. But, they aired America's Got Talent instead. They may have aired it during the middle of the night.

I think Iliza won because she won all of those head-to-head challenges and they wanted a woman to win. Oh and that she's got a nice rack.

Still wanted Marcus to win. But, I am kinda of used to my favorite comic not winning.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

What did NYC show from 8-9:30? That's when this was on.

I hated the way they rushed through the competition in just a few episodes.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

The NBC affiliate in New York aired the Giants' preseason game last night. Interstingly, the NBC affiliate here in Albany, which always takes the local Giant preseason feeds from WNBC, aired Last Comic on their main channel and put the football game on one of their digital streams (which normally just shows their radar). That surprised me.

NBC is notorious for that on their reality shows. American Gladiators is barely more than 30 minutes of content that they sometimes stretch to 90-120 minute episodes. That's why the only way to watch NBC's shows is by DVR.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

I'm just now watching the finale (thanks, Tivo) and again I'm struck at how they completely mangle a finale show. A show to announce their winner has nothing to do with the show itself. It's all fluff and D-list comics. I'm an hour in and I've watched maybe five minutes (thanks, Tivo).

Here's hoping for a good conclusion!

Ok, I see I wasn't alone in being annoyed by the padding. But I'm glad Iliza won; she was my pick.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

I wanted to watch this, but something happened with my DVR software and it didn't record. I figured I didn't miss much, but from what I saw of the beginning of the next-to-last episode, it was obvious who the audience favorites were when all of the comics were introduced at the beginning: Iliza and Marcus. If either had won, I was happy. I think that by making Iliza compete so much, they gave her more exposure and time to be funny so everyone who voted already liked her before her final set.

Re: Last Comic Standing...

OK, but the reason Iliza competed so much was that the other comics kept picking her to do that.
