Problems playing homemade DVDs

Thread Starter
I am currently using a Toshiba SD4900 DVD player which is supposed to play DVD-R but I have a few DVDs of a wedding that play without any problem on the computer but when these DVDs are played in the Toshiba player they only play for about 30 minutes then they freeze up and will not play any further. Do I need a new DVD player? If so, what feature must I look for? Thanks.

Re: Problems playing homemade DVDs

I had the same issue with my Panasonic DVD player. I bought the cheapest DVD player I could find to play my homemade DVD's. I think I spent $20 on a Cyberhome model. It plays EVERYTHING I put in it. Burned on a PC, not a problem. Burned on stand alone DVD burner, plays fine. Burned directly via a camcorder, still plays without issue.

Well you did say these were wedding videos. Maybe the player is just getting bored.

Re: Problems playing homemade DVDs

The fact they play and then freeze indicates the most likely problem is bad or poorly burned media. Another player may or may not do better. There is a good chance the disc will get worse with time. If there is no copyguard involved, you can make a copy on better media. Verbatim is generally the best.
