I hear the show is being retitled for next season: So You Think You Can Twitch

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

Nigel looked a little taken aback when Joshua was announced as the winnah.

I'm almost considering seeing this crew of dancers when they show up in my area in November. Anyone else see the live traveling show in the past? Are they worth the ticket price ($40-$60)?

Mia looked absolutely stunned when Katie was told the bad news. I think she may make a routine about it next season...

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I didnt think she would win it, but I was still sad to see Katee lose. At least she got $50K, so that makes me feel better. This is my first season watching so I cant speak of past seasons, but that girl brought it EVERY week. I am sure there were a few instances where she got minor critiques, but 95% of the time she was amazing. I thought Twitch was going to win so I was very pleased Joshua got it instead. At least the audience got it almost right...although I guess he is the favorite so perhaps they did!

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

Anyone else notice that Sabra and Jessica were not on the show last night?

Where are they? What's the deal?

Also, Mary Murphy bugs the hell out of me with her schtick but holy hell can she move. Great legs, too.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

To me Mary Murphy is like the Janice Dickinson of ballroom dance, a little past her prime, but still trying to re-capture her prime. Her number made her look too creaky (her hip and shoulder shakes just weren't snapping tight), and her legs were almost too thin and long.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I liked the show with all the performances, but I was bummed Chelsie did not get called out to do what she does best.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I noticed Nigel's semi-dazed look when Josh won too. Serves him right for shamelessly pimping Twitch like he was his agent.

I too also wondered why Sabra wasn't there. I can only assume she has some other commitment on her schedule. Seems like a major oversight to not have last season's winner perform.

Watching Mary Murphy's was like watching a horror movie. You want to look away, but feel oddly compelled to keep watching. I did like Nigel's tap with the kids though.

Several things really struck me. First, watching the reruns of all those dances from this season really reinforced the fact that Josh, as a dancer, completely blew away Twitch, and for me, if Twitch had won it would have been one of the great ripoffs on TV in recent history. Second, while disappointing that Katee didn't win, I wasn't too surprised. She's an amazing technical dancer, but her personality is a bit on the boring side. Third, the dance medley of contestants from all the other seasons was excellent. Thinking about that moment, it really shows that the program has produced some fantastic accomplished dancers and to see what some of them were working on since their time on the show reinforces that even if you don't win, it's a good springboard into the dance business. Fourth, once again, I have to ask what the hell was Cat Deely wearing? Her outfits this season have been hideous.

I'm happy that Josh won. He truly deserved it.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I wouldn't pay to see them- have seen enough over the past 3 months and could have done without the finale being a live rerun.

Does Twitch get cash for 2nd place?

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

Actually, was the sequence of eliminations reflective of the actual order in terms of total votes? I thought I recall Cat saying at some point that it was not. Maybe someone who still has the finale recorded can check.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

They didn't say it was, but if you take any stock in Dial Idol, that was the reverse order. BTW, according to DI, the guys absolutely killed the girls with votes. Katee and Courtney weren't anywhere near the ballpark, the downtown area, or state line. It appeared that Katee and Courtney only got a smattering of the overall votes. I think Twitch got all the votes he could, and Josh got pretty much everything else. According to Nigel, Josh had been the top vote getter for weeks now and he wasn't surprised he won.

That was probably the most entertaining the show has been since before they hit the top ten. Compared to the 100% Robusto filler that is the AI finale, this one was Kona coffee. Part of the problem is that the group sings on Idol are sooo Brady Bunch Variety Hour, but the group dances on SYTYCD are spectacular. I could have done without the Jonas Bros (although the DVR allowed me that exact indulgence), and the judges' dancing numbers were very, very entertaining. My only quibble were some of the judge's choice numbers -- I could have done without any of the Twitch ones, and they could have populated it with just Marksie and Katua performances and I wouldn't have minded. As a matter of fact, I would have perferred that. One thing I noticed during the Mark/Courtney dance was how stumpy Courtney's legs are and how her lines are so incomplete. Dressed in that corset, she reminded me of one of those little person porn stars who show up on the Howard Stern set on occassion. And why did she wear a different dress for her rumba? That one-sided dress was the most memorable part of the original performance. Frankly, how that rumba makes it over any of Chelsie's latin dances is beyond me. I guess they had to have something to justify Courtney's final four standing.

And yay to Will and Katee for their flawless "pas de deux". I really loved it the first time, botched spin and all. I think there were a lot of Will haters fixated on that single flub that it did not warrant the attention it deserved. I think it's playing better now that the Will resentment has subsided and the one flaw was corrected.

And Josh, I will absolutely be watching SYTYCD Canada if, for no other reason, Blake looks to be the cattiest reality contest judge/diva this side of ANTM. Plus, I want to wash the taste of this year's shennanigans out of my mouth. Seriously, Twitch shouldn't have been anywhere near the top four.

That was a seriously one sided popper battle. Chbeeb was sweating profusely afterward, and it was hysterical when Muraine mocked his one big move (which he did just as well). I'm not sure how anyone scored a point for Chbeeb unless they felt bad for him. It fell out about how I expected it to. Now Muraine vs BJ -- that would be awesome.

Oh, and:

He must have had some ballet training at some point. For a big guy, he gets a lot of air.

So yes, I'm very happy he won. My wife was thrilled.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

LOL at the little person porn star comment. I guess I was too distracted by the fact that she is a dead ringer for Valerie Bertinelli to even notice. I too was disappointed that Courtney didn't wear the one sided blue dress from the first time she did that rumba, although that tattered black thing wasn't too bad. I'm sure Gev didn't mind.

How could I forget the popper battle? Muraine destroyed the other guy, whose popping was spastic and random. The "judging" for that was so contrived. Let's see, 6 judges on the panel? I see a guaranteed 3-3 tie in the vote. That was about as predictable as Nigel's Twitch-love.

All in all, it was a nice finale to a very enjoyable season. I don't know if it was as good as season 3. To me Hok, and to a lesser extent, Sabra made that season memorable. Plus, the blatant favoritism the judges displayed this season was a big downer.

The Idol finale was much better than this. At least a good chunk of it was new stuff.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

Am I the only one who would love a DVD set of this show? Probably not all the dance numbers but something like a best of, top 50 or something like that. Although I am sure the music rights is deal breaker before it would even get off the ground.

The music to me can be just as important as the dancing. I loved all the songs from the dances on the finale show, so much so I made a CD. Pretty amazing since I dont think I have ever heard of any of them.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. The problem for me is I'm almost certain what someone else thinks is a "best of" wouldn't match my own "best of". Thus, what I started doing with American Idol was extracting my own "best of" from the performances. I didn't think to do that with SYTYCD this season, with the exception of Robert Muraine, but I will next time. If I get time, I may watch this season again and pull out the ones that really impacted me so I can save them as I still have the 10 top performances recorded.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I've just finished watching the penultimate episode and it occurs to me why I didn't really do a best of DVD for this show. In any given season of American Idol, I end up with just a handful of performances I'd enjoy seeing again -- enough to put on a DVD. In contrast, there's something every episode of SYTYCD that I enjoy. Not every routine of every episode, but at least one routine of each episode. Also, since it was my first time really watching Dance like this (as opposed to listening to music), I had no idea which things I'd like to go back and see again (which would stand the test of time).

I'm really looking forward to watching the Finale now.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

Just a quick note... I know someone (Hanson?) mentioned watching SYTYCD Australia, so I thought I'd mention that there is now a SYTYCD Canada edition and the first episode has aired. So far, I only recognize Mary Murphy at the judges' table. I'm not going to start a thread on it since most here won't be able to watch it on CTV anyway. A whole new batch of dancers to be impressed by.

Re: So You Think You Can Dance: Season 4

I started watching SYTYCDC last night, but my wife couldn't keep her eyes open after 40 minutes (it's due to exhaustion from taking care of the new baby and does not speak to the quality of the show).

I liked the dancers and judges (except Mary is in some ways more grating than the US auditions), but some of the ones that went straight to the finals (what, is the phrase, "I'm going to Toronto!" not glamourous enough?) would have gone to choreo in the US. Also a lot less contemporary dancers and more street dancers this go round (Australia had a similar ratio to the US version).

How in the tank is Brittany Murphy's movie career that she has to host a Canadian dance show? That was her, right?

I don't see the resemblance. Perhaps a seperated at birth is in order In all seriousness, Leah Miller is only really recognizable if you watch a lot of MuchMusic here, and I don't.

She's certainly no Cat Deeley, but she's better than Seacrest IMO.

With regards to the "I'm going to the finals!" thing, while I can't make the statement with certainty, perhaps they said that because "I'm going to Toronto!" would be silly, seeing as how that episode was filmed in Toronto. I'll guess we'll see Sunday, when we see Vancouver and Halifax.

Oh, and another "rule" holds true for this edition as it does for the American edition. If you see a steady-cam shot of a dancer, it is a 100% assurance that dancer will be going to the finals. My g/f noticed that trick a few seasons back, and so far it's been perfect. A dancer comes on the screen, "oh steady-cam shot, she's through..."
