Remove them, and it would look much better.

Looks like Rob Liefeld designed this costume.

I believe that Caps will be parachuting into battle at least once in the picture, so it's possible that there's a parachute built into the suit that the straps attach. I like them, because they give the suit texture, and remind me of American paratroopers during World War II:

Looks pretty awesome.  Skinny Chris Evans.  So, is he fighting Nazis or not?  If it's all Hydra, that'll really be lame.  How will general audiences relate to that?

This digital comic linked from the movie's official site with a movie tie-in logo should ease your mind, since it opens with this panel:

The film's synopsis reads as follows:

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth.

After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by 'vita-rays.' Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

Basically, Red Skull seems to be Hitler's lieutenant, and Hydra seems to be his own private army.

Thanks for that.  The current Avengers cartoon has removed the Nazis from the equation and there was some talk that the movie would do the same.  I don't really like it for the cartoon, but it couldn't work for a movie where the audience doesn't know what Hydra is and expects WWII to be WWII.

^ There are quite a few foreign markets that don't allow Nazis in children's programming, which is why I think they made that change  for the Avengers cartoon.

I nice little spot - but I was hoping for more footage. Looking foward to this one, and hope it doesnt disappoint.

I'm just going to keep my expectations really low, and hope Joe Johnston and company can entertain and even surprise me.

i'm assuming that somewhere in the movie, he gets frozen and then eventually wakes up 2011 or something (didn't that happen in the comic?  i was never a CA reader).  but i wonder at what point of the movie this will be?  does the movie end with him frozen and the Avengers movie takes care of the "wake-up"?  or does he wake up at the end of this Cap movie, or way before that, etc.

It was originally going to be roughly 50/50 between 1940s and the present, but after Joe Johnston got involved, he reinvisioned it as a period piece, so now it takes place almost entirely during World War II except for bookends at the beginning and end set in the present day.

Obviously, NSFW (just going by the title of the video), keep the audio low.

The booth at the 2011 Toy Fair features the more streamlined, contemporary version of the suit used in the present day scenes:

Trailer at official site, and escaped into YouTube.

Love it. Very excited for this film.

I hate how Paramount's been releasing Flash versions to the movie news sites, which degrade the quality and smack their logos all over it, instead of just releasing it through Yahoo or Apple in full HD right off the bat.

But yeah, great trailer. It sells you on who the character is and what his purpose is. That should be the obvious thing to do, but far too many superhero trailers don't bother. And for those worried that Hydra would replace Nazis a la the Avengers cartoon, we got a specific reference to Adolf Hitler in there.

I know this is an older post, but I wanted to point out that this was just one of the early concept images for the WW2 Costume in the upcoming film. I'm not sure if they'll even have a modern suit in Captain America.

But you can see the new suit in this early promotional image of the Avengers assembled!

Even better.

Alan Silvestri's score:

It reminds me of the great hummable scores of the past. It's got a very brassy, patriotic newsreel feel about it in the beginning.

WRT the score: Word is that Amazon's listing of the soundtrack contains a spoiler in the track listing. Forewarned!

Mixed review here from this comics web site:

Still, sounds like a lot of fun, along the lines of The Rocketeer and Indiana Jones.
