Cable Thickness

I've been in the HT game for about five years, so I should know this, but I'm clueless. How big a deal is thickness in video cables, especially component?
I just got a PS3 and I don't have an HDMI/DVI set yet. At Gamestop there are $15 cables that are pretty thin but gold-plated and recommended for HD use, and there is also a $50 package that includes USB and much thicker, more robust-looking cables. Will I see a difference in picture quality if I go more expensive?

Re: Cable Thickness

On shorter lengths you will probably see no difference. Even at medium lengths with a digital signal, you probably won't see any difference. With digital, the picture is either there or it's not. With analog, the thicker cables can carry the signal farther without degradation.
