Not saying that the 94TXH is a bad receiver is just does not seem to be as stout as the Onkyo in the audio department. They both have 3 HDMI inputs, the 94TXH upscales to 1080p and I have hear that the 805 does not but I am not totally sure I heard it passes what you put into it. I am currently saving up for a new receiver and at one point the 92TXH and 94TXH where both on my initial list of receivers to consider. I have since narrowed it down to the following three Denon AVR-3808CI, Onkyo TX-NR905 and if money falls short the Onkyo TX-SR805. The Pioneer's seem to fall short of advertised power output as do the Yamaha's, Denon and Marantz. At least the top Onkyo's put out what they say they do or actually extreamly close, alot closer than the others at least. They both have THX processing if that means anything to you, personally I do not care if it has THX certification or not. IMHO THX certification is not all that important as there are plenty of high end brands that surpase THX specifications that are not certified. But I would say to go for the Onkyo 805, just make sure you have plenty of ventalation as it runs on the hot side. Make sure the back of your a/v rack is completly open and you have at least 6" over space over the receiver or at least 5" min.
For around $1,350 you can pick up a factory refurbished 905.
Onkyo 905

Re: Onkyo TX-SR805 or Pioneer VSX92TXH
I have the Onkyo 805 and love it. My buddy is a Pioneer Elite dealer though and swears by the Pioneers. I don't know if it matters to you but the Onkyo 805 is THX Ultra2 certified and the Pioneer VSX92TXH is only THX select2. When I bought my Onkyo I had the choice of getting it or the VSX91TXH, which only has 2 HDMI inputs, for the same price ($689). The third HDMI input and the THX Ultra2 rating sealed the deal for me.
