Psych Season 3- 7/18/08 - Page 4

Re: Psych Season 3- 7/18/08

I usually just fast forward through the intro, so I'll have to go back and check on that. Thanks for pointing it out.

No, it was way different and had some things that I don't think we've seen yet, so I'd be willing to bet its just the new intro. Also, I hate the song, but the chorus is better than the rest of it... the new intro gave more than just the chorus though.

Re: Psych Season 3- 7/18/08

I liked the extended version of the opening theme this week. I also thought that the most recent episode was among the very best, most witty, and thoroughly engaging that I have seen of this series. It's also one of the very few times that I guessed correctly regarding the murderer right off the bat. I took a stab at it when the older man in the beginning was treating the female investigator somewhat harshly.

The show still moves at a pace for me that is quick enough that I cannot possibly get all of the nuances and references at first viewing. It's so challenging that way. Then again, it's one of the best reasons for me to pick up the series on DVD.

They were coming non-stop this week. In addition to the slew of Major League references there was the headshot of Roday in character as "Chad" from 1999's Coming Soon and Shawn's mention of watching The Mentalist. (I really have to go back to that scene with the roster board and recheck all those names and what Shawn had to say about them. )

I love this show.

Joe

Joe,

Agreed. Such an intelligently-written program.

I loved the fake-Spanish sounding name Shawn was using a few times, and when Gus mentioned Emilio Estevez, Shawn said something like, "You mean Martin Sheen." Priceless.

And, of course, Shawn mentioning that he and his dad were big Harry Hamlin fans. (Corbin Bernsen and Harry Hamlin co-starred in LA Law).

I love this show.

On a different subject, why was Frank Gifford given a credit on the show this week? (01/30/09). I must have missed his appearance.

Which reminds me of a stand up comic I saw ages ago. He made a passing reference "to one of those 80s teen comedies where everybody in it is Martin Sheen's kid and no two of them have the same last name."

I don't remember seeing him, either. He may have had a cameo that was cut for time - in which case he'd still qualify for residuals, and SAG rules would still require an on-screen credit.

Also gotta give credit to Bob Costas for sending himself up the way he did.

Joe

That was in "Monk" wasn't it - not "Psych"?

How I'd love to see a crossover episode with Monk and Psych.

Sorry.

Thought this was the Psych Season 3 thread.

You're right though. Costas was good.

S3 episode 15 was fantastic! especially after having come home from seeing Friday the 13th. i've seen most of season 1 and random shows here and there, but this one is by far my favorite.

What a great season finale.

It was great that shawn finally had a case that was a serious one, with a serial killer.
I loved the surprise that the serial killer was
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Ally Sheedy

I'm so glad they kept this person's name off the main opening cast list.

We also got Cybil Sheperd and Rachel Leigh Cook back.
Rachel looked very cute.

It was so sad to see Shawn turn down Jules offer.

Are we led to believe that Shawn isn't done with this serial killer yet??
I'm wondering if this person has something else in store for him later on.

One of my favorite episodes!!

Re: Psych Season 3- 7/18/08

I'm not a dedicated of Psych, but is there something odd going on with the character Mary? Is he a recurring character?

Why did he put the White Rat in his pocket? With a couple other things he did, I was convinced when he did that that he would be somehow linked to the murderer -- he would seem to be the polar opposite Yin of a cold blooded killer Yang. Maybe that was supposed to be an intentional misdirect and maybe a bit too cliche for the "Expert" on the mass murderer to be the actual murderer. I guess having a partner Serial Team would seem to be a way to fulfill the last statement by "Mr Yang."

I think the point was just to make Mary as totally creepy as possible, since he's spent years of his life chasing down this one killer.

And I really liked this episode, but the fact that she handed him the detonator just didn't feel right. I sort of thought that something else was going to happen to him while he was on his date (and of course, something did, but an entirely different type of something from what I was expecting ).

Re: Psych Season 3- 7/18/08

He succeeded on the creepy part for sure, but I'm not convinced there isn't more to the story. He was just a bit too helpful pointing the guys in the right direction, the over the top limp wrist, the train enthusiast, and for heavens sake the name itself.

I agree. After catching up with the "Truer Lies" episode, which was mediocre, and the "Tuesday the 17th" episode, which was fun but mainly just bizzare. This episode was like night and day. It was nice to see a criminal that got under his skin enough that he got serious for a change. He also didn't even bother trying to hide his detective work, since there wasn't time. (I wonder if that was part of what pushed Jules to go for it?) The scene with his mother trapped in the car was tense as hell, and the tension had been building steadily.

Thank you! At first glance I thought it was Melanie Lynskey and for some reason, once I got a closer look I couldn't get Lynskey's name out of my head. I knew it had to be an 80's teen star, given her age and the show's cultural fixation. It was driving me crazy. The funny thing is, I just watched War Games on AMC a couple weeks ago.

And her comic timing is impeccable. This show is a great showcase for teen heart throbs from decades past. Hollywood being what it is, she's been pretty much written off for the big screen now that she's closing in on 30 (impeccable 30!). I'd love to see her get some real roles, and of course keep coming back to "Psych"

I loved the way he handled it. He's so seldom serious that when he is it really shows so much about him. Unlike most will-they, won't-they relationships, he didn't lie to her or leave Abigail at the curb. Jules is obviously the one he's really after, but after Abigail feeling betrayed yet again, he wasn't going to do that to her. He shot her down at the high school reunion for Jules, and Jules just strung him along. Even though she's ready now, he's too decent of a guy to shoot Abigail down yet a third time. You could tell he was on the verge of doing it outside the snack bar, but didn't let himself. This time, things didn't work out with Jules for all of the right reasons.

I was wondering that myself. From the way Ally Sheedy's character was talking and some of Mary's actions, I thought she was going to be yet another pawn in Mr. Yang's game. I'm not sure it needed another layer, though.

I was thinking along the same lines you were, and I'm still not sure were wrong. It's likely that Mary was only ever meant to be a very creepy red herring.

Re: Psych Season 3- 7/18/08

I found this episode to be first-rate in almost every way. It was a very fitting season finale, and IMO may be the very best episode to date (although there are about three or four others that are also top-notch).

When I saw Jules come up to Shawn at the end, at first I couldn't believe it, and then I remembered that this was a season finale. So I thought, "Of course they're going to do this." It was only fitting that she wanted to be with Shawn at this particular time.

The only downside (and it was a very small thing) is I knew Shawn wasn't altogether serious when he threw the people out of the Psych office. Because he's so irreverant for so much of a particular episode, he comes across sometimes (to me at least) being very similar to the boy who cried wolf when he is shifting gears. I didn't buy it for a moment, but I understood why he did what he did. And his apology to Jules for that outburst means he did realize how he might have come across to her. I don't think he cares all that much about apologizing to Lassiter or to 'Uncle Willard."

I think he was really apologizing for shooting her down, and used that as a cover. And I think Jules understood it as such.
