Excellent news.

Queue up the following standard gripes:
  • Oh no! not the book packaging again
  • No lossless = no sale
  • It'll have DNR to please the grain haters
  • Was it a 4k scan? if so not good enough - it should be 8k because 8 is higher than 4.
  • $35 for a catalog title? Are they nuts?

It gets even funnier if you imagine Nigel Tufnel saying it.

the laser special edition.

You hit that one out of the ballpark.

This is great news. Along similar lines: About a year ago, I remember hearing that 'Amadeus' was tentatively scheduled for a January 08 release. Given the format shake-out, I wonder what's the current status. Both 'Amadeus' and 'Cuckoo's Nest' were fine special editions in SD, so I assume they'll be likewise in BD. Seems to me, both of these would have been naturals for the "book" editions, given the custom cases featured in SD.

I wonder if Warner is looking at having both cuts of Amadeus for the BD. I hope so. if that's the case it may be a bit longer until that gets released as compared to this release of Cuckoo's Nest.

Amadeus' beautiful cinematography will look extraordinary on BD. Both the theatrical version and the director's cut on the same disk would be an excellent move. I just hope you can make your own version, since I never liked the scene with Katerina, Mozart and Salieri in her dressing room, that one was a bit 'stating the obvious'. Other than that I liked the DC very much.

I watched Amadeus on HDnet this week and it looked really nice.

It was the DC

So you are saying that you would be perfectly happy to pay $35.00 for this movie if it had no lossless track, DNR out the wazoo, and a master scanned at the best rate possible?

I'm saying people bitch way too much around here. I thought that was obvious but I guess not.

Does the Canadian edition of the Ultimate Edition BLU-RAY have bilingual English/French packaging?
