1 new cast member who saves an established show? - Page 2

Re: 1 new cast member who saves an established show?

Heather Locklear on Melrose was the obvious example. There aren't many.

How were the ratings for Happy Days in the first season? Remember, they replaced Pat Morita with Al Molinaro at the hangout (Al's/ Arnold's). I don't think that was a case of saving the show though.

I wonder whether any of the Doctor Who actors fit the criteria. I'm not familiar with the show's ratings history in the UK.

Besides the Heather Locklear and Joan Collins mentions, the closest I can think of would be Tiffany Amber Theissen and 90210. Not sure if it was close to cancellation, but her arrival certainly breathed new life into the show.

Now, an example of the inverse of the OP's question - what show went on to thrive AFTER a main character left - would be A Different World. The show was created for Lisa Bonet but didn't take off until after she left.
