Re: Bewitched Season 7

So I know the following info could've simply been deduced by dividing the 28 episode by four discs to equal seven episodes per disc, but Bewitched - Sony to Release 7th Season (DVD) (which incorrectly lists a French audio soundtrack - sorry Martin) gives a disc by disc break down of the episodes as follows:

Bewitched - The Complete 7th Season - Disc 1:
•To Go or Not to Go, That is the Question
•Salem, Here We Come
•Salem Saga, The
•Samantha's Hot Bedwarmer
•Darrin on a Pedestal
•Paul Revere Rides Again
•Samantha's Bad Day in Salem

Bewitched - The Complete 7th Season - Disc 2:
•Samantha's Old Salem Trip
•Samantha's Pet Warlock
•Samantha's Old Man
•Corsican Cousins, The
•Samantha's Magic Potion
•Sisters at Heart
•Mother-In-Law of The Year, The

Bewitched - The Complete 7th Season - Disc 3:
•Mary, The Good Fairy
•Good Fairy Strikes Again, The
•Return of Darrin the Bold, The
•House That Uncle Arthur Built, The
•Samantha and the Troll
•This Little Piggie
•Mixed Doubles

Bewitched - The Complete 7th Season - Disc 4:
•Darrin Goes Ape
•Money Happy Returns
•Out Of the Mouths of Babes
•Samantha's Psychic Pslip
•Samantha's Magic Mirror
•Laugh, Clown, Laugh
•Samantha and the Antique Doll

Notice that the very last Salem episode is placed on the next disc. How inconvienient for a Salem episode marathon if you don't have a multi-disc changer! And even if you do, there is still the time to wait for the disc to change, skip through the Sony opening credits and then sit through the warning info. It's a very minor quibble, but it's sorta like a mosquito...very small, but quite irritating.

Don't be sorry, David. How lovely it would be if that description was the real one. It could be! I have faith...

Sony did the same thing in the season 5 box set, splitting the episode Serena Strikes Again on two different discs. (episode part 1 on disc #2 and part 2 on disc #3)

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Does anyone think that Sony should have done the artwork a little different? I am glad season 7 is coming out, but I really was hoping for yellow, orange or brown... and the thing that bothered me the most is that they didn't include little Adam on the front cover. For instance, Tabs was born in season 2, and they added her on the cover in season 3, and Adam was born in season 6, so I think they should have added him to the cover of season 7 because he was an important character... i know these are just minor complaints, but you think Sony would have taken this into consideration...

What do you guys think the big box set will be like? Someone said it will be shaped like staircase going upwards to season 8, however, i don't see that.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

I agree that Adam should be on the cover. Seems like he always gets the shaft. I'm surprised by how many of my friends, when watching episodes with me (which RARELY happens) are surprised that Samantha and Durwood had a little boy.

I also think that pretty much the entire box should've been devoted to the Salem episodes.

Here is a bigger picture of the back:

Notice that DS is wearing glasses in the top pic. It's a nice behind-the-scenes photo, but I think it's out of place here. They should replace it with something like this:

....or even this:

AAAAAAAAA!!! I'm just joking about that one...that pig head seriously is creepy!!!

But little Adam does get a photo on the back, so that's good and I LOVE that photo of Serena with the big toys.

I do know that the Sony legal department if very, very picky and controlling about what pics can and cannot be used, so that may be the reason.

I'm hoping that the Complete Series box set is quite similar to what Japan got in there complete set. I thought it looked classy.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

David, is it me or did the pic that you said of the back not show up? i was looking for Darrin with glasses and all i saw were sam and endora and pigheaded durwood... thanks for the pics... wonder why they always leave little Adam out?

Indeed, we cannot access the first picture.
Maybe the link to the picture is broken.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

How much of the Salem episodes were actually filmed in Salem. Was it just exteriors? Is there any break down giving how many minutes of the shows were filmed on location and what was filmed on Gower Street?

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Basically, the only scenes filmed in Salem were exteriors of Sam and Darrin at the House of Seven Gables in "The Salem Saga" and Larry and Darrin there in "Samantha's Bad Day in Salem." Otherwise they simply filmed a few establishing shots.

The majority of location filming took place in Gloucester in "Darrin on a Pedestal," where they filmed exteriors at The Gloucester House restaurant, Hammond Castle and a lot of filming near the real Fisherman's Memorial.

All interiors were filmed at Gower, and most of the Salem outdoor scenes featuring the actors were shot at the Columbia Ranch, including all shots of entrances and exits into the Hawthorne Hotel, Sam's cab ride after Paul Revere, etc. And they used a lot of rear-screen projection for many of the sightseeing scenes.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

wasn't the reason they decided to go to Salem was because during season 6 and season 7 hiatus a fire broke out and destroyed most of the Bewitched set? I am looking forward to seeing the newly remodeled house in these last seasons... however, the stairway in the kitchen was just cheesy, no offense to anyone... i have never seen a stairway like that... that's why i kind of thought the art cover may match the newly remodeled Stephen's home... wow, now i can't wait for season 7...

David, thanks so much for showing the back cover, it is always nice to read those to see who guest stars and at least they have a pic of little Adam... he better be on one of the discs at least i hope... and i hope they include him on the art covers of seasons 8 and 9.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Yes, the fire that destroyed the majority of the set was the reason they decided to go to Salem.

Along with all the places John mentioned, one that I thought was WAY cool was that the elevators seen in "Samantha's Bad Day in Salem" at the Hawthorne were the actual elevators in the hotel! And they still look the same today (or at least two years ago they did).

They were going to film at the Witch House but rain prevented them.

All this info, and much more behind-the-scenes info AND pictures (cause I love pictures) are available in Peter Alachi's book "Summer of Sam" about when BW went to film in Salem. I met Peter in Salem and he is a really cool guy. You should all get a copy of his book if you haven't at Bewitched in Salem!.

I never liked those stairs though I did enjoy the addition to the kitchen of the breakfast nook and were I to make a replica of the home to live in I would go with that style of kitchen.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Thank you all for so many interesting information about the show and especially about that seventh season. I have a question about that back cover DVD box... In the upper picture, we can identify Samantha, Darrin end Endora. Notice that Darrin is wearing glasses! Could this picture be taken from a rehearsal?

Re: Bewitched Season 7

When I first saw that picture I thought it was Dr. Bombay! It makes more sense that it is Darrin but when I first saw it I thought it was Bombay. I don't remember Darrin ever wearing glasses in any episode. I'm not really sure though.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

It is a rehearsal photo because DS wore glasses in real life. There are other photos, specifically from the George Washington episodes from Season 8, where they show him wearing glasses during rehearsal.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

In season 8 didn't they first announce that they were going to film in Europe but then changed their mind because of the expense? I would assume they were thinking of this because of the success of the Salem episodes. Did the Salem episodes give the show a jump in ratings ? They are obviously popular now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the back picture of DS with the glasses was replaced by another picture when the actual set is released.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Gary, to answer your question about Europe, I am not sure. However, David may know more about that...I have the bewitched forever book and never read that, but it is possible... the ratings were excellent, but during season 8 they fell because they were remaking so many episodes and they moved bewitched to Saturday Nights in January 1972. From what i read, ABC wanted Bewitched to go on for more seasons and even had scripts written for season 9 which was to begin filming in Spring 1972, but Liz didn't come back...I think she was tired of the show, and her and Asher were on the rocks because she was seeing a director I think and I just don't blame her... she wanted to spread her wings and do other roles...I think that was one reason she did Serena because it gets boring playing goody two shoes and Serena was just pure fun... But how we would have loved to have more seasons if it was possible...i also remember Erin Murphy saying there was never an end of series party because the cast and crew were still thinking BW was going to go on for season 9...and I guess ABC didn't want to replace liz because that would have just made the show too weird.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe that the Salem episodes did give a boost and then that is why they did the Europe episodes in Season 8 though I believe it was never the intention to actually film in Europe.

So speaking about the picture of DS in the glasses, I kept thinking, "I've just recently seen this, but where?" And, lo and behold, I had a copy of it in my files! LOL So here's a bigger look at it:

If you look at their feet you'll see where their places have been marked for when they would have to remember where they were to affect a pop out.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

In case you're getting over anxious for the release of Season 7 and can't wait to see some Salem episodes, WGN is airing "Salem, Here We Come" and "Samantha's Hot Bedwarmer" tonight in about an hour (11 PM EST).

I can't believe it's just a little over a month until we DO get Season 7 on DVD!!

I'm sure one of the motivations for ABC to want a season 9 even with the drop in raitings was so there would be more color episodes for ABC daytime repeats which ALWAYS did well!

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Today Play.com have updated their website to say that the UK season 7 release will have three discs and a run-time of 9 hours (Play.com (UK) : Bewitched: Season 7 (3 Disc) : DVD - Free Delivery). This would imply about 20 or 21 episodes. I thought that this might be a mistake, but when I checked Sony's site, this says that the run-time is 512 minutes, again about 20 or 21 episodes (BEWITCHED - Season 7 STD DVD Sell-Thru). I compared this to Amazon.com's listing and Sony's US site's listing, and both of these are saying that there will be a run-time of 712 minutes (Bewitched - The Complete Seventh Season (4 discs) - DVD), which appears to be about right.

Is this some kind of mistake, or will the UK release not be the complete seventh season?

I believe this is the first time North-Americans and most European countries will get Bewitched at the same time!

Re: Bewitched Season 7

I wonder if it would be too much to hope that Sony will release season 8 before the end of the year to complete the series? In the past they've been really, really slow to release the final season of any show. Look how long it took to get the final season of Starsky & Hutch and Good Times. Just to name a couple.

Re: Bewitched Season 7

Hey Brian, from I have read, sony is planning on releasing season 8 by the end of the decade... so that would be great then the entire box set will be out in Twenty Ten... so let's hope that is true... The only thing I hope is that the box set will have the black and white from seasons 1 and 2 and have a bunch of extras and have a cool design

I am a fan from the UK, so this is very disappointing news for me, I was really looking forward to season 7. But when I looked at amazon.co.uk they said that there WILL be a “Bewitched - Series 7 – Complete” with 4 discs!(Bewitched - Series 7 - Complete [1970])
Is this true? Because Sony said that the running time is 512 min, so Amazon might be wrong, but I hope Amazon is right though!

Re: Bewitched Season 7

I've just checked that link and it does indeed say complete, but it says three discs and it has the runtime of 512 minutes which is not the full run-time. Like you I hope that this is some kind of mistake. I notice that the German Amazon is selling season 7 with the correct number of minutes and discs listed (http://tinyurl.com/8apkbu) and the French Amazon is also selling season 7 with the correct number of discs (the runtime is not mentioned) http://tinyurl.com/9z9b9g

Re: Bewitched Season 7

It took from July 2007 to May 2008 (region 1) For BW season 5 to season 6 and from May 2008 to February 2009 (region 1) for BW Season 7 so i am guessing season 8 may come out in November 2009 or December 2009 and the complete box set sometime in 2010... unless the do us like they did All in the Family...we got up to season 6 or 7 and they stopped... But since they released IDOJ I am pretty sure BW season 8 will be released this year too

Re: Bewitched Season 7

By the way has anyone heard any reviews of season 7? Any problems with the discs like in season 5 with the transfers? I hope everything works smoothly and i hope on the box set they fix that from season 3 during the Ben franklin episode
