Ok, I just got a Yamaha YHT-590 Home theater in a box, I connected my PS3 via HDMI and I am not getting sound out of the surround sound but only through the TV which it said in the owners manual. Why have HDMI if I cant get it in surround sound.....please if someone knows someone knows something I dont please help out. Do I need to configure something?

I agree it's kind of silly that these companies make HDMI receivers that can only do HDMI switching but can't process the audio from it.

For this system you'll have to use the optical hookup for surround sound.

Or, return it for a higher end YHT-690/790, or one of the top end Onkyo systems which will support audio over HDMI. This is necessary if you want to listen to the newer Blu-ray uncompressed / lossless compression tracks rather than the legacy DD/DTS.
