Discreet Sub

I know this has been asked, but new models emerge and a quick search didn't turn up much, so: What are some decent but small (wife-friendly) subwoofers on the market? It has to have some style as well, or look so inconspicuous that it doesn't need style. This is for a friend but I'd say his budget is between $500 and $1200.
