Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

While I think Miller could do an outstanding job with the material, a $40 million budget isn't going to produce a film that can be a blockbuster. But a return to the property's roots could result in a cool movie, especially if it has a look all its own, like Sin City and (perhaps) The Spirit.

Yea, i was going to say $40 million doesnt buy you much of a sci-fi blockbuster movie these days.
<---Says a guy who paid money to see Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in the theater, back in the 70s. And we know that sucked...as a movie.

The current plan is to turn “the cheapness of the low-budget effects will be a running joke in the movie, which will retain the campiness of the 1980s TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century starring Gil Gerard.”
And I'm out.

If this is true I'm not interested. There are enough bad movies that come out without producers *intentionally* making crap. I'd rather they show some ingenuity and try to overcome a low budget instead of apologizing for it through self-reflexive jokes.

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

I have to image with Frank Miller on board, it would have to have some subversive quality, a grittiness or at least respect for the source material.

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

I love Millers comic work, but this sounds awful. I'll cross my fingers.

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

Oh my God. I am stunned at how terrible this sounds. Good grief, I just re-read Batman year One and The Dark Knight Returns this week! The man is a genius.

But maybe he has finally gone loopy.

"Finally"? I thought he'd been nuts for years.

I love Frank Miller but I'd imagine that this is either a.) completely false or b.) can't be quite what it sounds like.

Actually, it could be kind of cool. But, I think that $40 million dollar figure might be off by several million dollars.

Uh, Huh...it would need to be off by 100 million to make a difference in what will be a steam pile of poop.

Finally? Did you see Robocop 2?

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

Robocop 2 was supposed to be robocop 3, and both of them had heavy cuts, hence Miller quit hollywood and got back to doing comics, namely Sin City so he wouldn't have to answer to anyone. He had offers to adapt Sin City for years before allowing Rodriguez to do it, and that only came about because Rodriguez shot the opening with no permission to convince him.

So what I'm saying is, you can't blame those shit robocop films on Miller

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

I dont want to see a movie where it is an ongoing joke about bad effects.
Why not make a Farscape movie. Its essentially the same story.

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

The story of Buck Rogers has so much potential for greatness, so this just sounds incredibly dumb. Flat out low IQ dumb.

He is a genius, and with a $40 million budget it sounds like he'll go substance over crap. Good gravy, I will take a Sci Fi film with less CGI, and more story over a $200 million time waster of a movie.

I can't wait for this. In a perfect world Miller would make this film with no CGI at all, and use actual sets. Hollywood genre films have become too normal. Think outside the box!

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

What Miller has stated is that the film is going to be a joke. What is being described sounds incredibly dumb. I'm all for thinking outside the box, but this is like thinking in a trash can at a flea market.

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

Not surprisingly, Frank Miller is not directing this anymore (and probably never was).

Last week, IGN reported that director Frank Miller would follow-up The Spirit with a remake of Buck Rogers, the “campy ’80s sci-fi TV series” most people under 30 have never thought about. Turns out, the writer-producer of the Buck Rogers film, Flint Dille, says Miller is definitely not directing it, leaving Nu Image/Millenium on the prowl for a new “contender” to launch the 80-year-old character into the Oughts. Interestingly, Dille said that he would still like to “meddle” with his pal Miller in the future. So, we’re left wondering, was Miller in and now he’s not?

Re: Frank Miller to Direct New Buck Rogers $40 Million Dollar Movie

Thank God! Likely the online reaction was so viral that Miller pulled out before signing on the dotted line.
