There is no doubt that all five of these titles are coming out, it is just the winner will come out sooner than the others.

For anyone that has no preference or doesn't know which title to select, please pick Kwaidan. In addition to being a great film, it will look great in HD. Plus, it is a Japanese film licensed from a Japanese company (In the Realm of the Senses is licensed from a French company) and hopefully it will lead to the other Japanese masterpieces that are in the Criterion Collection being released on Blu-Ray.

I think that bluray has been a roaring success for Criterion, so they added one title (one of these five) to their december releases. Usually December is a light month for them, only one or two new releases, and I doubt they'd have scheduled a bluray catalog rerelease for this december, until their sales were strong. There's four titles from the original bluray announcement left:
CONTEMPT
THE COMPLETE MONTEREY POP
GIMME SHELTER
WALKABOUT

so I imagine these four films are the August-November titles, and the winner of this poll will be the December title.

so we might be getting Gimme Shelter in August, Walkabout in September, Contempt in October, and Monterey Pop in November, for example.

But, Criterion also announced in the Sound & Vision article that they would be ramping up their blu-ray production. So, it seems that it's a possibility that we'll continue to see two blu-rays per month from Criterion with the exception being the month of May because of "Ran" being cancelled.

We should probably see more releases by the year's end than just the remaining four titles.

I'll try to find the quote, but I remember reading recently that Blu-rays make up ~40% of the sales for those titles that are available in both DVD and Blu-ray.

Ditto. I think all five of the films are worthy of BD, but, as one of Criterion's early non-anamorphic releases, PaHR is the one title in the list most in need of an upgrade.

I voted for Au Revoir Les Enfants because it's the only one out of the five that I care to own, and it's still on my Amazon wish list. What a beautiful, heartbreaking film.

Barring that, I'd love to see either Rashomon or Days of Heaven get the BD treatment someday. The latter will probably wait until Tree of Life is released, though.

indeed, they seem to have gone to one catalog bluray title a month, accompanied by one of the new releases also coming out as bluray. I doubt very much we'll get more than five more catalog blurray releases from August-December, but each of those months will probably have one new title which also get bluray, such as Cronos, which will obviously be a late October release. We may see them shift to two new releases as bluray. But bringing out too many catalog bluray releases threatens to cannibalize the market for their new releases, and since they've lied about keeping blurays the same price, I doubt they'll bring out more catalog blurays competition since they've decided to go the higher price gouging route.

Now if we could just convince them to release one eclipse a month, I'd be very happy.

Maybe this time Criterion will release the full-length version of the film, not the shorter US cut which runs 20+ minutes shorter.

The full version is available on the Masters of Cinema UK DVD (which also features some very different colours on the print)

Exactly. The occasional discount does not a liar make. When I consider how much I've paid for some Criterion SD DVD titles, their current BD pricing is a reasonable amount (for a Criterion title--would that all releases had such care put into them).

Whew! As much as I'd enjoy that, too, my finances would never allow it. I do good to grab as many Eclipse sets I can off the Amazon Marketplace in the $30 to $40 price range from time-to-time.

Plus, with a Netflix queue that's constantly filled with no less than 490 movies at a time and all my movies at home, I just don't have enough time in these 24-hour days, unfortunately.

Well, if Criterion isn't keeping their DVD and BD prices close to each other, Amazon is apparently helping out with that. Their pre-order price for For All Mankind BD is currently $19.99, the same price as for the DVD pre-order - even though Amazon has the higher MSRP listed for the BD.

Picnic at Hanging Rock should win ,the dvd isn't even 16x9
I think this is just a ad for all their next Blue Rays ,and they are doing
all of these.

I just don't understand why no "El Sur" this film is clearly better than
most of their titles

I voted for PaHR. I'm sure all of these will be out on BR sooner or later, along with all of their DVD only new releases. Even though I still don't have a player, I can't see buying any more Criterion DVDs. If I'm going to fork out for a film I want, the high def version is what I'll hold out for 90% of the time.

other sites have reported that CRITERION lost the rights to CONTEMPT, maybe at least for Blu-Ray. Anyone else hearing this? Looks like the standard DVD is still listed in print.

I heard that as well. There is some good news though. Contempt will be released on BD on September 3 in the Netherlands by Universal (who distributes Canal Plus titles there). Belle de Jour is coming as well on the same day.

The news that Criterion lost the Blu-Ray rights for Contempt comes from a member at the criterionforum.org, but I haven't seen anyone confirm it.

Over at Glenn Kenny's blog, someone asked him if he could find out if Criterion really lost the rights and he said he would. Hopefully he will be able to find out what is going on.
