Re: MGM Press Release: City Slickers Collectors Edition

I ask this question not with sarcasm, but in ignorance: If you are going to re-release this very popular title (coupled with a national sweepstakes), why wouldn't you also have an HD release at the same time?

I would suspect there are many people who would buy this title again on BD, but won't consider an SD upgrade right now (figuring an HD release can't be too far behind). Am I wrong?

Same boat as you, Mike. Baffles me that there is no Blu-ray version coming out on the same date.

Re: MGM Press Release: City Slickers Collectors Edition

I don't double dip much anymore, but I am for this one. I just sold my old copy on half.com and am looking forward to the SE, epecially the deleted scenes. I have no interest in HD.

I would love to have this title on blu-ray, and will sit tight on my earlier DVD until such time as that happens. This one could look real good on blu by the way.

Re: MGM Press Release: City Slickers Collectors Edition

I love this film a lot.....definitely one of my top ten favourite comedies. As much as I love it though, I will be passing on this until a Blu-ray release is announced. I find it ridiculous that MGM is not releasing it on Blu day & date with the DVD.

Re: MGM Press Release: City Slickers Collectors Edition

Yeah, I won't buy it until it hits blu-ray.
But I'm curious about the commentary.
I wonder if Billy Crystal will get into his hatred and constant fighting he had with Bruno Kirby on the set of the movie.(The reason why he wasn't in the sequel)

I found the City Slickers Collector's Edition at Target a few weeks ago for $5 so I picked up a copy. It was clearly marked "Collector's Edition" and had the cardboard slip cover on it so I assume it was an early pressing. I just opened it up a few minutes ago and discovered that the disc is the orginal DVD release and not the CE. Of course I have no idea where the receipt is now so I guess I'll have to eat the $5 but I just thought I'd mention this in case anyone out there has a copy that they haven't checked yet.

That sucks, Todd.

It also still sucks that there's no BD of City Slickers available yet...

Hard to believe this thread is a year-and-a-half old already.

I agree. Then again, given MGM's current financial situation, maybe it's just as well nothing's being done at the moment. What Blu-ray product has emerged is being done on the extreme cheap. For example, if the cover art at DVD Empire is to be believed, the long-delayed release of To Live and Die in L.A., when it finally arrives, will contain an MPEG2 compression job on a BD25, and a copy of the old DVD for extras. I think I'd rather wait for a new owner to do a decent job than get more disappointing product now.
