Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

Mine too - Amazon always seems to pad their standard and super-saver delivery times by a few days, either to make the more expensive options look more attractive or to avoid customer-service headaches brought on by things they can't control, such as the US Postal Service.

Is your order coming via UPS or the post office?

Thanks, fellas. I figured it would probably get here "on time" (that is, before the weekend)...but I got nervous when I saw that May 14th date...which they confirmed in their e-mail response.

It is being delivered via USPS.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

I just noticed that DVD Price Search is listing some $15 BDs from Fries, including Sunshine. Seems like worth a look for those who live near a Fries.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

LOL. I guess I misspelled Fry's. That's what happens when I don't get to live near one.

BTW, who's that supposed to be in the "spoilers"??

So. Order ships next day (5-5-08). With standard shipping, order is supposed to arrive in US within 3 to 5 business days. The way I figure it, that means I should have it no later than Saturday 5-10 (or even Monday 5-12 in the worst case scenario).

But amazon is gleefully telling me I should expect to receive the shipment on 5-14. That's eight days (if only counting weekdays).

Is that normal? Two e-mails on the subject have yielded no comprehensible answer.
I never bother with the shipping and delivery estimates. My orders always ship and arrive before those dates. I always choose Free Shipping and my orders always arrive through USPS, my last delivery arrived 3 days after Amazon shipped it but I've also have had orders take up to nine days. I don't care as long as I get it. I also get a chuckle out of people worrying about short delivery time frames, when it takes from 11-21 days for me to get mine from the time I place the order until I get it. . I pay by MOs.

The Claudine DVD says it is 1.33:1 but also says it preserves the original theatrical presentation. Is this true or is this a MAR release?

Claudine DVD, Rob?

Which one is that?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

Regarding your Amazon situation, Mike, check your shipping confirmation e-mail. It should have a delivery confirmation number (I always get one with the free shipping, I imagine you should have one if you went with the standard shipping). The USPS site should give a more accurate delivery estimate than Amazon's inflated estimate.

Worst case scenario - print out Amazon's item pages for the book/DVD, give those to your wife Sunday and tell her she'll get the actual items eventually.

Oh and BTW, thanks for adding the flying cow pic.

Thanks, Scott. The USPS site tells me the same thing amazon does at this point. That:

Quote:
Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on May 5, 2008 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Amazon says:

Quote:
May 5, 2008 --- US Carrier notified to pick up package

We'll see. Wouldn't be the first time I've wrapped a picture of a gift!

I still expect to receive them before Sunday. if not, I'm really going to make a lot of noise to amazon. That's just not right to say 3-5 business days and then not deliver.

I read an article recently about how Sears was expanding its on-line catalog and thought I would give it a try. I’ve got to tell you that, at first blush, the Sears prices look pretty darn competitive. I will also try to get to my local Sears store and see what the in-store displays/inventory looks like. If you have ANY feedback on this addition—or, if you have been known to frequent your local Sears store for DVDs—please share your observations here!

44 posts in...and nothing on the Sear's addition? Has noone EVER done ANY DVD shopping at Sears? I'm especially curious if the in-store prices are the same as the on-line prices.

I'm putting together next week's RoundUp already (in particular the Sear's titles/prices) and wondering if I'll continue to do so in coming weeks. It's a fair amount of extra effort.

I rarely go to the mall so I didn't even know that Sears carried DVDs (beyond guaranteed sellers like summer blockbusters or kids' movies).

The effort is always appreciated though.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

Mike, I was going to stop at Sear's for Twister, but I ended up "pre-ordering" it (along with a few other BD's) from the Warner store on Monday. Please don't hit me with a wet noodle!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

Mike, the Sears in our town is a joke (even more-so since the K-mart involvement.) They do not carry any videogame hardware or software. And, besides the occasional end-cap or aisle rack of family-type DVDs (Disney and other animated titles), I never see anything in the way of new releases there. The electronics department is cluttered with lots of TVs, digital cameras, camcorders, and little else. Now that I think of it, they don't carry any computer hardware or software, either...

Thanks for the extra effort. Based on your listing I did call Sears (never bought a dvd from them before. Hell, didn't even know they carried them). Unfortunately, like my 2 Wal Marts, K Mart, Target, Sam's & Circuit City they didn't get the standard dvd of Twister in stock. So I had to order it from Deep Discount.

I used to have to walk through Sears to get into the mall, then they started tearing down our indoor malls and building outdoor ones.

Now I don't even know where there is a Sears.

Just kidding. But I never go to that mall anymore.

Did you get it in time or did Amazon or the post office screw you over?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-6-2008

Hey, Travis! Would have answered sooner...but have been busy putting the new RoundUp together.

Amazon got it to my door this afternoon. Yay! It snuck in at the last possible minute. Finally got a response to my last e-mail, too!

Quote:
Greetings from Amazon.com.

I understand your concern that you wanted to receive this order (#xxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxx) by May 11, 2008 as it is for Mother's Day.

And regarding the same I have checked your order and see that it is estimated to be delivered on May 14, 2008. Please understand that we are trying all possibilities to make sure it is delivered before May 14, 2008 so that you receive it by Mother's Day.

However, to compensate you towards the delay caused due to this order, I have requested a refund of $4.98 towards the shipping charges to the payment method you used for your original purchase. This refund should go through within 2 to 3 business days. You should see it as a credit on your next statement.

Rest assured that we will make sure to deliver the order as soon as possible and I request you kindly wait so that you can receive it soon.

So...while I am thrilled the package made it...and even more thrilled they ate the cost of shipping, I still think it's wrong for them to advertise 3-5 business days for standard shipping and then tell you to expect it nine business days later.

But now I gotta go wrap things for tomorrow!
