AirPort Express - New vs. Old

I have been wanting to add wireless music to both home and work. Both places have wired networking, but the wireless music for locations without a computer would be nice. Is there anything to gain with the new AirPort Express? I know nothing about wireless networking and I am guessing the new model just has faster bitrate, which I really don't need. I'm guessing that means it might be a good time to pick up a few of the old model on eBay for a song.

Re: AirPort Express - New vs. Old

Aside from "N" networking, which in addition the higher throughput offers different frequencies (which could help with cordless phone, etc. interference), by getting a new one you get a warranty and likely longer life.

WiFi base stations tend to run hot and crap out eventually. I really wouldn't buy an used one.

If all you want the express for is audio I'd seriously consider looking at a Roku instead. It'll stream the audio from iTunes wirelessly if you want but unlike the express it has its own display and you navigate your iTunes collection in the same manner as you would on an iPod.

Thanks for the info Ted.

The Roku looks nice for home. I'm not going to the expense for work.
