Iron Man sequel news - Page 9

This is interesting:

Quote:

Olivia Munn tells Complex Magazine that her involvement in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel is quite different than even the filmmakers expected, so much so she ended up playing two entirely different characters.

Munn revealed she had to recently reshoot all of her scenes for the film in a completely different role than the one she played during the main shoot last year.

"As they started to edit they realized it was becoming darker than what they'd expected and what my scenes had allowed for. My parts were lighthearted and comedic" says Munn who "would've started crying" had her scenes been left on the cutting room floor.

Thankfully director Jon Favreau came in to save the day - "Favreau called and was like, "I've got good news and bad news: This is what's happening in editing but we all really like you." Marvel and Jon had to add another character from the Marvel universe to keep me included" says Munn who sadly didn't elaborate on either of her characters.

I wonder who it will be.  Though I obviously don't know what the general tone is, I tend to like the idea of darker rather than comedic.

Wednesday was a big day for Marvel Studios because director Jon Favreau wrapped up "Iron Man 2."

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president and producer on "Thor," was in a celebratory mood, but it was split with with anger over the New York Daily News reports, which Feige called "garbage."

Feige said the plan to meld the Marvel Universe on the silver screen will move forward dramatically now and he said there are some surprises in "Iron Man 2" that set up an unexpected bond to the "Captain America" movie that director Joe Johnston is doing early work on now in England.

"Now many of the pieces are in place ... with 'Iron Man 2' finished and 'Thor' more than halfway done, that lattice work is being built."

Maybe there will be cameos from Cap and Thor in IM2, who knows

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Meanwhile two characters from that movie may be making earlier appearances than that. According to a trusted source for Bad Taste, a scene about Captain America and Thor will appear after the end credits of "Iron Man 2" - much like the way Nick Fury made a camera in a post-credits scene at the end of 2008's "Iron Man".

Could we see two hunky guys named Chris - Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth - in full costume? Unlikely. The crucial wording here is that it's a "scene about" the two characters meaning one or both may not even pop up on screen but rather merely referenced.

While the Tomatometer rating at Rotten Tomatoes currently stands at 82% with only a handful of mainstream critics having weighed in, most of the reviews so far seem to be only reluctantly positive. The common thread seems to be that it's not as good or as engaging as the first film. The "too many villians" complaint has been voiced as well.

It doesn't take a psychic to know that that's exactly what people will be saying on the internet too. You can generally count on if one movie gets some love, the next one will get panned or outright trashed.

To be fair Favreau and company did set the bar pretty high with the first film. For that very reason I think a lot of people were hoping for, and probably expecting, a Dark Knight situation with Iron Man 2.
I'm not going to downgrade the film until I see it myself.  It could be a Dark Knight situation as far as I'm concerned, and who cares if the critics disagree.

I'm right there with you Greg and will form my own opinion after I screen the film. I was just making some comments about the critical winds so far.

I wasn't trying to be as harsh as it may read.  The critics make me nervous, but I want to try to put that out of my mind while I watch.

I think you're right but considering that so few sequels manage to be better than their predecessors, that doesn't seem like the most realistic expectation. Plus, it seems like when people love a movie and then the next one doesn't match it, their dissapointment can make them really come down harder on the sequel than they normally would.

On the other hand, people are sometimes guilty of rating a followup effort higher than they should, because they've become so attached to the director's previous effort(s).  "This HAS to be good, and I'll defend it even if it isn't, because I liked what he did before".

How often does that really happen, though? The majority of the time people think the sequel is never as good.

^ You should visit some horror movie message boards. You'd be surprised by how people are willing to defend Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning or A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge as quality film making.
