Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

How about a re-release of The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour (Show) with the original opening and closing titles, and a re-release of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show with the original single-sequence closing credits?

BTW, didn't the original closing titles to SD/DH look similar to that of Jabberjaw, just as season 1 of both Fonz & the Happy Days Gang and The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show had similar closing credit sequences?

Put me on that list of buyers!

And The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour (Show)'s end credit sequence looked more similar to that of Clue Club than Jabberjaw's.

I'll be happy if they just release Vol.2 and Vol.3 of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show
If they fix the credits, that'd be a bonus. Same for SD/DM, how are they
going to release the final four episodes from season two?

Does anyone think we'll ever get some kind of Laff-a-Lympics release that
includes the missing Scooby Doo episodes left off season 3 and the four
"Blue Falcon & Dynomutt" ones?

It's hard to imagine how they'll do it. It's so stupid how WB has chopped up
these shows. It would be so much better if they reassemble all the HB shows
into their original show blocks, as aired, and released them in volumes.
RR/SD was on the right track, and now it's been over a year without a release
of the next volume... frustrating.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

I think there are some issues with some of the charaters in the laff olympics, which is causing issues to releasing it on dvds, like Babu (Jeannie).

I am very surprise the remaining episodes of Scooby-doo were not released, because HB is planning to release the lost superfriends episodes. Gee, yet they wont released Superfriends from 1973. So, it is mind boggling why items get delayed or never released.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

I actually hate these combo show collections. I want to collect Scooby Doo, not the other shows paired with it. And to add to the negative of that, we don't get every episode made. I get the issues with the Scooby Doo movies but there are several episodes from the later editions of the show in the 70s that did not appear on collections.

Oddly enough on of those "unreleased" episodes appeared on one of the single disc collections early in the decade. The title escape me now, but it was a good episode.

I'd love to see The Pirates of Dark Water on DVD. It had great storytelling and continuity to it not seen in many cartoons of its time.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

Some shows by H-B (and Ruby-Spears) haven't been released as of yet, as my theory goes, is due to the fact that some of the original prints (as they were seen prior to syndication) were never found (or are in poor condition; if you look at such shows as The Quick Draw McGraw Show and The Banana Splits Adventure Hour), and The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour DVD suffered from a "rush-release" syndrome due to this.

Actually, Jeannie never appeared opposite Babu on Laff-a-Lympics.

As Blue Falcon and Dynomutt would frankly exchange: "Dog Wonder?!" "I did it again, didn't I?" "Yes, Dog Wonder, you did it again!"

Ruby-Spears' Plastic Man will be seeing the light of day on DVD this September, but not with Mighty Man & Yukk, Fangface & Fangpuss, and Rickety Rocket, nor with the other segments of the 1980-81 season (The Plastic Man/Baby Plas Super Comedy Show) that are Plastic Family and Baby Plas. At least not until this "complete" collection of all 35 of Plas's segments sell well. People have long desired for Plas to get a DVD release, and this is why I hint at it selling well.

I heard from a colleague from another board that the masters for The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour in fact do exist; it's just that WHV didn't put their backs into properly constructing it. The original 60-minute installments of The Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show have yet to be unearthed, however (if only they'd think to probe The Library Of Congress and/or The Paley Center For Media...).

In regards to SD/DH, I think WHV should've delayed its final release by six months or so to give more time for searching for the original credits.

Still waiting on Season 2 of Wait till Your Father Gets Home, very under rated. I treasure my Season 1 Set. It is the best.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

Boomerang is widely available to Time Warner subscribers, but I believe its a premium digital channel. We've had it for years here.

I'd love to see a standalone DVD release of Pixie and Dixie & Mr. Jinks.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

I'd also like me some PIXIE & DIXIE, but what I'd really like most from Warner's H-B library is the supremely weird THE NEW ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (1968), which, though later recycled as fodder for THE BANANA SPLITS AND FRIENDS, was originally a stand-alone prime-time show, like THE FLINTSTONES, THE JETSONS and JONNY QUEST. Because of this, it had higher production values than the average HB show from the late 1960s. In basic concept (though minus the dinosaurs and sci-fi), it anticipated LAND OF THE LOST by six years.

Boomerang used to run it (up until a few years ago), but there it was missing its live-action opening sequence (which sort of explained why these Mark Twain characters ended up in ancient Greece, the South Seas, Lilliput, etc), probably due to it being cut-and-pasted into THE BANANA SPLITS, and only ran (over and over) half of the series' 20 episodes.

I wonder if some of these will pop up in the WARNER ARCHIVE when they branch out into TV shows and Animation.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

Over at Amazon.com, they have a page for Huckleberry Hound Volume 2 asking people to sign up to be notified when it is released. They also have a page for Quick Draw McGraw. I encourage people from this forum to put in their e-mail addresses at Amazon.com to let WHV know that there really is interest in seeing these two titles released.

This is also listed at HMV:

hmv.com: dvd: Banana Splits & Friends Show: Complete Season 1: 6dvd (2009)

and they have a "trailer," which is actually the syndicated "Banana Splits And Friends Show" opening titles (not "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour," which was the original title of the show). If these are the syndicated cut-downs as aired on Boomerang, then the quality will be excellent, but there will be a couple minutes missing from each show. (The show was originally one hour.) Not only that, the "trailer" is cropped for widescreen. If you want to get really nitpicky, the show opening (with the theme song) is completely butchered, and the footage is actually from the Season 2 opening and closing (so the credits are wrong). But the biggest issue will be the missing footage (and OAR). This does not bode well.

At least that's the impression I get from what's on that page -- I'd love to be wrong on this.

It's frustrating, because Warner Bros. has a set of the 18 complete one-hour shows, in their correct running order with the original Season 1 opening and closing, in 16mm. They also have a set of one-inch video masters of the same shows, but a different version (re-edited for later Saturday morning reruns, so they would have the Season 2 opening, closing and bumpers and a few other changes). It was this set of video masters which were being looked at a few years ago for US DVD release -- ultimately they ended up cancelling the project because of some picture quality issues with the tape dubs.

In short, it looks like they're pulling a Scooby Doo/Dynomutt on us.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

the 6 dvd element is what's strange since they don't need that many discs for it unless their going to put barely 2 hours on each disc.

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

I think they are going to include 24 episodes, but what do I know. This would include Season1 and Season 2. Also, sometimes shows get a different name in the U.K. than they do in the USA. For example, when "Top Cat" first aired in Britain it was called "Boss Cat" because there was already a character on TV called Top Cat. Later, this got changed when the other character lost popularity. Another example is "Batman Beyond". In England it was called "Batman of the Future" as opposed to the American title.

I do not know if this is true also for the Banana Splits in the U.K., but I am going to be optimistic and judge the set in September when it comes out.

By the way, Mark, your mailbox is full at our other forum location, but I'll answer your question here. The set, including postage, is costing me about $30 USD.

Has it ever been said the 1973 version won't be released? They haven't followed any kind of release pattern for the various seasons of Super Friends so I don't see what the issue is. We get product almost like clockwork every single year. Do you honesty think Warner will just skip the first iteration?

It makes complete sense to release the '73 series last since it's really not as good as the later years as far as villains and stories.

There were 31 one-hour shows -- Season 1 consisted of 18 shows and Season 2 had 13.

"The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" is the original name of the show. "The Banana Splits And Friends Show" refers to a half-hour syndicated package that consisted of 36 Banana Splits cut-downs, along with episodes of other unrelated Hanna-Barbera shows. The show opening they have as the "trailer" looks exactly like the cut-down syndicated show opening now seen on Boomerang. I believe some UK showings have used the name "The Banana Splits Adventure Show."

Re: Future Hanna-Barbera DVDs

But the Season 2 of the Banana Splits isn't much of a season. They included new live action bits by the Splits, but they just reran the same animated cartoons and Danger Island. They didn't do any new songs. The bits would be fun to watch. But there's probably less than 80 minutes of new footage.
