SVS or AfterShock...can't tell

I live in the Indy area, where we felt the Ill. earthquake on Friday morning. Well, I had the day off along with another co-worker and he came over to see my setup and view some Blu Ray/HD DVD stuff. I have SVS PCi 20-39, JBL S312 fronts, S36 surrounds. We are in the middle of watching the battle scene at the end of Transformers in HD-DVD, and I have the system cranked up and we are enjoying the hell out of the movie.

All of a sudden, the wife comes downstair and asked if we felt that, and was it an aftershock or something. I'm like no, crazy lady, we are just enjoying these scenes and the living room is just a rumbling with action. Later, we did find out there was really an aftershock at that time of the day....

I can't tell the difference between an aftershock/earthquake and an SVS PCI 20-39???? I'm not sure if I'm just sharing this experience...or bragging ....hahaha!!

Re: SVS or AfterShock...can't tell

I had a somewhat similar experience myself.

I live and grew up in the Bay Area – so an earthquake is nothing new to me.

I was watching some movie on my system while “relaxing” on the couch and fell asleep. I was shaken awake, and thought there was an earthquake going on.

I have a programmable remote with a one button “shut –down” macro that turns off all of my equipment. Thinking fast, I didn’t want any power surges to hurt my system, so I hit the power off macro button – and the earthquake stopped.

I had to laugh at my home made earthquake.

I didn't feel the recent earthquake myself but lots of people here in Kansas City, Missouri did. I never felt an earthquake with my SVS but my wife did tell me I was vibrating the street outside our house when I was watching a movie and had my system cranked up.

Re: SVS or AfterShock...can't tell

I was away on a business trip for over two weeks and happy to be back relaxing on my couch this past Saturday night. I picked up the remote and deftly switched on the components as I realized just how much I had missed my cave of electronic bliss. I was sleepy due to the 6 hr time change and hr of the night along with a trip from hell that took almost 36 hrs to complete. I happened to switch on Direct TV and as the TV came on ( a DLP ) there is a little delay as the lamp reaches its optimum brightness and a delay as the AVR switches on and then begins to process the sound. Well, in my infinite wisdom.....self mandated of course....I decided to turn up the sound. This ended up being a rather exciting moment in the movie when the surreal and ungodly low sounds of the movie Pulse were at thier peak, I litterally jumped off of the couch and dropped the remote. The hair on the back of my neck stood up and my heart raced.....WOW, I really did miss my little theater.

SVS rocks.....my house and the neighborhood!

Happy to be home, cheers folks.
