Starship Troopers and it's sequel coming to BD July 29th. No official specs but it's supposed to port over all the extras from the SE DVD.

Blu-ray.com - Starship Troopers Coming to Blu-ray

I'll be curious to see how the PQ stacks up against the UK Disney import.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Okay. If they are doing all this, can I at least get "Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation" on Blu-ray as well? I mean, everything else is coming and it wasn't that bad.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

If a recent UK TV screening is anything to go by, I doubt ST2 is worth releasing on Blu-ray. The film looked terrible, like it was being projected on a waterfall of sand.

The film was made on the cheap, and it shows.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

"Extras include BonusView material on both releases, featuring interviews, graphics, special effects information, and more.

'Starship Troopers' will feature all the content from the previous DVD release - which includes deleted scenes, several featurettes, audio commentary, a documentary, and episodes of the TV series "Roughnecks: The Starship Trooper Chronicles".

'Starship Troopers: Marauder' will feature two commentaries and two featurettes."

**
Based on this, ST should include e.g. Audio commentary (not included with the Euro-releases) and "BonusView material", which probably means some new stuff. I´m also getting the sequel, I mean whatta hell.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

I'm definitely interested to read how the AV quality stacks up against the UK release. That being said, if it is comparable, and the price is right, I'll purchase the US release too for the features.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Hmmm. I was hoping for the PCM track included in the UK release instead of TrueHD. Will still buy it anyway.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

It is possible Sony will release it with the same encode as the UK release. They didn't bother to reencode Paprika for the US release.

I'd think the same if the UK disc were a Sony release but it isn't. The UK disc is a Disney encode.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Looks good.
a slight amount of noticeable grain.
detail seems to be there.

dialog seemed a tad low, otherwise no complaints on the sound.

a ton of special features.
there isn't any episode of the csrtoonon here that i can see.

one feature not listed is a bd-live that let's yoiu download a photo of yourself and have yourself appear in the film.

doesnt work yet.
i guess it isn't live yet because the disc doesnt come out 'till 8-5.

oddly amazon doesn't have a date for this yet, only a date for the 3 movie set.

i wish that first teaser was on here, it was great when those bugs those bugs first appear.

I just noticed this disc has something i haven't seen efore.
even during the sd special features you can still bring up the
menu screen without going out from the video the way
a regular sd dvd does.

HD Digest is reporting the TrueHD track is out of sync on the U.S. Release. Did you detect any of this at all?

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

yea i saw that.

"Also of note: the TrueHD track seems to be a few frames out of sync with the picture. It's close enough to be unnoticeable for most of the movie, and isn't ever severe enough to be concerned about, but every so often the inaccurate sync may be momentarily distracting."

i noticed a few times when dialog was off a tick but it but was rare.
there would be one person talking and be off a tick, but the person he was talking to was not off at all.

looked to me like a dubbing issue.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Josh Zyber (reviewer for highdefdigest) noticed this as well. He also has the UK BD which does not seem to be affected.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

I know I'm the only one that cares, but, YES! A Blu-ray version of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. I'll be buying the complete Blu-ray set of all three films. Although, I'm hearing that ST3 isn't that good. Hey, I like ST2, so, I'm sure I'll love it.

Well, I was already on the fence with this release, as I have the UK version. The extras aren't that important to me, so this becomes a 'pass' regardless of cost unless a replacement program is put in place.

I guess I'll also be passing until they fix it.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

i doubt this will e fixed.
i only saw it maybe twice.

it's not a big deal and I might not have notices at all if i didnt already know about it.

thats why i didnt mention it first.

Count me out, and I was really looking forward to this but I'm not spending $25 on a shoddy disc.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Curious that each of the sd DVD releases of the first fil were considered state of the art as far as A/V yet I've seen several reviews so the Bd so far that are only grading it a very good (usually something like 4 out of 5). This should be a 5/5 release.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

4/5 is very good.
so now some of you won't buy a disc if it isnt rated perfect.
seriously, the one or 2 times this out of synch showed up it wasnt even noticeable.

folks are jumping the gun on condemning this one.

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

Change of subject: Has anyone found the first two discs available for sale separately?

As far as I can tell, Sony appears to be pulling a Spider-Man here. You can buy the third film separately or all three films in a group, but you can't buy either of the first two by itself. If I'm wrong, could someone please direct me to a retailer selling only the first film? I'll happily buy it, imperfections and all.

EDIT: OK, I see Amazon has finally listed the first film separately, also with an August 5 release date.

Hmmm....so you both think anyone who is upset at Dark City and refusing to buy it without viewing it (but being able to see clear DNR and EE in screencaps) is crazy and you basically take shots at them yet you both will pass on a disc that you haven't seen which might have a "minor" lip syncing problem. So it is wrong to see visual evidence of an issue of a disc and read reports by people reporting said issue and choose to pass on said disc but OK to read 2 reports of what (it seems) is less of an issue on a diff disc and pass on it even though a person in this thread who has viewed it said it only showed up in a few scenes.

Interesting how the double standard works with some...

BTW DNR and EE being applied is considered a "shoddy disc" by me and all the others who are upset by that with dark city and stuff. Maybe with me "calling you guys out" with your double standard you guys can understand and appreciate the "other side" in the DNR debate.

Oh and by no means am I saying you guys should be happy with the starship troopers thing. Like you guys, I will probably pass on this if it turns out to be noticeable to more people.

Does anyone think we'll ever see the NC-17 cut of the first Starship Troopers with that extra 4 seconds of gore?

You might want to read the whole thread in Hi-Def Digest. It´s quite clear that it´s a very minor issue, IF it´s "issue" at all..
Quote: "We're talking milliseconds of difference"

At least I´m not worried. I´ll order this soon. Want to see the sequels also, so box set for me.

Anyone seen the 3rd film yet? Any good? I guess it has a bigger budget compared to the 2nd one...

Re: Starship Troopers US Blu-ray July 29

While I am happy to hear that the issue is minor, I'd still rather have correctly synced audio than more extras. So, I'll be staying with the UK version barring the unlikely event of a corrected disc being issued.
