It was mostly piano though. It did have some synth but it was mostly subtle, sort of atmospheric. It sort of reminds me of The Exorcist and the way it used music. And they still kept about 40% of the original score anyway, so it wasn't a total do-over, I just thought it was one of the few instances where updating or "modernizing" an old film actually made for an improved viewing experience. Not that I would ever want this to replace the original--I just felt it created a much better atmosphere. This was how I first saw the film actually, and I remembered going and watching the true original afterwards and not finding it near effective, I mean the film was still scary in parts, but that cheesy "Outer Limits" type 1950's television score undermined a lot of the suspense for me. I think thats one of the few things about the film that actually keep it from working on a modern level, as soon as I hear the original score I am reminded of stuff like Beast From 20, 000 Fathoms or Star Trek, I mean I love those too but they don't work in the same way. The updated score retained the original music in places where it was effective but I felt that what it replaced and added was a worthwhile viewing experience. But its been a long time since I've seen it so maybe its not as good as I remember it. I just remember always being dissapointed with the true original score when i first heard it.

EDIT

I found the 30th anniversary trailer. It has the extra scenes and stuff which were awful but it shows some of the music from the redone score. It works about as well as I remember it.

To each their own I suppose, but this has to be the only time in the ten years since it's release that I have heard anyone say that Scott Vladimir Licina's score for NOTLD "redux" was anything but uninspired ponderous repetitive heavyhanded Casio style key plinking.

But he was an astounding actor in the film as Rev. Hicks though wasn't he? ...h..hello...anyone?
