Back to the Future Trilogy (Now Announced) Discussion Thread - Page 2

sorry. It is a fake. Check the bottom right of the BR cover. You can see the bttf.com logo

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy [Blu-ray]
Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy (+ Digital Copy)

The big tip off that it's a fake is that there's a 'release month' rather than a specific date. Another fake element is that it says five discs- there's no way that they created enough special features for 2 Blu-ray discs.

"We're being forced to buy all three?!".......And begin
post #34 of 61
Never bought these on DVD. Dunno if I would buy a trilogy set on BD, unless it was as cheap as I got X-Men for this week ($25 CDN @ Best Buy).

Okay... so here's the deal. The image below was first posted on 12/28 on the Spanish DVD website ZonaDVD, which claimed that it was an official sellsheet (from Universal Studios Home Entertainment's European operation) for a Back to the Future Trilogy Blu-ray box set release later this year. We've had a number of readers e-mail it over, wondering if it's real, and it's been a topic of discussion on several of the DVD forums over the holiday break. Now the thing is, it was posted by Zona on the Spanish equivalent of April Fool's Day (Dia de Los Santos Innocentes), so a lot of people immediately dismissed it as a joke. Here's the image...

Univeral (Europe) BTTF Blu-ray Sell Sheet

Many of you will no doubt be aware that we've ALREADY confirmed with multiple industry sources (click here and here) that the Back to the Future films ARE currently planned by Universal for release on Blu-ray later this year, as 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of the original film's release. (In fact, we posted information on this here at The Bits as far back as June of last year.) Having seen thousands of official studio sellsheets, this one just didn't have the look of a fake to me. So over the last few days, we've gone back to our industry sources for confirmation on it, one way or the other. Just as I suspected, what you see above is authentic. It's the real deal.

Now... do keep in mind that the title has NOT been officially announced yet by Universal. So the cover art, the details on special features and the July 2010 release window you see above are all SUBJECT TO CHANGE. But our sources tell us this IS real and the title IS coming to Blu-ray at some point later in 2010. So just be patient and rest assured that we'll post updates on The Bits' home page as they come in, and official details when the announcements are finally made.

As always, stay tuned...

Seems to me that we should be hearing some news
about a domestic release of this trilogy on BD very
shortly.

Someone asked about the inclusion of the Eric Stoltz
footage....

Heard an interview with Bob Gale about a year ago
on the Opie and Anthony show where he was pressed
by the boys as to whether that footage will ever be
released.

I can't remember his exact response one year later,
but essentially Bob's reply was that the footage will
probably never see the light of day.  There is no
reason that it should as it certainly would not be
flattering for Mr. Stoltz to have it floating around.

That the watermark of the BTTF.com fansite is visible on the box art used in the sellsheet is interesting, given that The Digital Bits has confirmed it as genuine.  It wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened, though.  I'm aware of two similar incidents in the video game industry.  Nintendo used an image from a fansite for the offical Metroid Fusion players guide, and Capcom used an image from IGN on the actual retail cover art for the Wii version of Okami.

I'll happily eat the words of my previous post but I still find multiple elements of that sheet questionable (a release month instead of a hard date, a five disc set and the fact that it's coming out in the summer rather than the fall).

Each movie on a disc, a disc of extras and maybe a digital copy of the first movie?

blu-ray has the final information. Zonadvd confesse they made a fake flyer (what a stupid idea)

I saw that the flyer is a fake, but that BTTF is coming to blu ray in 2010.

Day 1 purchase for me.

I just hope the "totally remastered and restored" part is true, but it sounds like part of the joke. It would be a shame if Universal just refashioned these from old masters again.

New masters have apparently been struck especially for the BD release.
I hope they paid attention to the framing this time.

I also hope they fixed some of the distorted sound that cropped up in Part II on some of the English 5.1 tracks.
Excellent! Then all we got to be concerned with is DNR.

I'm all over this!

I have just one message to Universal...make sure the dude doing the framing is awake and has plenty of coffee and Red Bull to drink, we don't need him falling asleep at the wheel with the framing like last time lol.

I waited over four years to pick that set up because I refused to buy defective product and send those two discs in to get replaced with good ones.
If you knew that a corrected replacement was available by mail, why didn't you just buy the set?  You'd have to have waited a few days, maybe weeks, for the replacement, but that's a lot less than the four years you ended up waiting anyway.
Meh, I'm a patient man.

That whole thing just soured me on it back then so I waited for it to come to stores.

Recently at another web site (which I can't recall off the top of my head), the observation was made that if Back to the Future was made today, Marty would travel back to 1980.  (Sheesh, that makes me feel old.)

Not that I would ever think BTTF needs a remake. But, I think it might be interesting to see a today take on the movie where it's 1980 that Marty goes back to.
Personally I wouldn't really find that interesting mainly because I remember 1980.

One of the things about time travel films that I always found most appealing was when they take me back, or ahead, to times and eras that I'm not personally familiar with and haven't witnessed first hand.
That's interesting.  I think a lot of people enjoy movies like Back to the Future because of a kind of nostalgia for the era depicted; they do remember it, and enjoy having a good laugh about how silly many elements of the culture of the time seem in retrospect.  I wasn't born in 1955 (or 1980, for that matter) and enjoy the movie anyway, but I get the impression that a lot of people enjoy it precisely because they do remember the era depicted.

Reminds me of the time I showed the film to the young son & daughter of a friend a few years back, and in the film when the diner owner asks if Marty "jumped ship" because of the "life preserver" he was wearing, the little boy turned to me and said "Why IS he wearing a life preserver?"

And who remembers what the heck "Pepsi Free" is anymore.

I updated the title of the thread to say now announced from not announced.  Here is a new trailer for the upcoming 25th Anniversary release:

Part II was on Nick last night.  It got two stars on the DVR guide, which seems common.  Was the film really a step down from the others, or was it just too complicated?  I remember reviewers and viewers complaining that it was hard to follow the timelines and understand the changes, but it always seemed pretty straightforward to me.  May be my comic reading past.  I enjoyed it.

I love part II, while it did lack the heart of the first one it had lots of other things going for it, it was just a fun movie that played with time in inventive ways. The series returned wonderfully to warm-hearted form with the third one.

Also, it introduced us to Power Lace Nike's and the Hoverboard which I'm still waiting to become a reality.
