So what do Beanies go for these days? TonyD, you're talking about going to a Beanie convention and trying to sell them. Could it be easier and worthwhile to simply donate them to your charity of choice and take the tax deduction?

Maybe 100 beanies are worth $1000 and it's worth spending a weekend selling them. But I'm lazy and I'd be inclined to just give them away to friends or GoodWill or something.

I used to collect Beanie Babies, pretty much from the time they started making them. Had about 150 or so before I stopped collecting.

Then in recent years I attempted to get rid of them, but it wasn't worth it to sell them on Ebay or anything like that. They just aren't as popular as they used to be.

So I gave some away as gifts, mostly to some kids I babysat and a few other people. Then I sent about 100 of them to an orphanage in Mexico that my church's youth group is involved with.

The rest were ones that had been played with and weren't in very good shape anymore, those ended up in the garbage.

I still have 2 of them that are kind of special to me, that were gifts from close friends.

So in the end, I probably spent close to 1,000 dollars on them over the years and got rid of them with no profit.

Well I guess hearing the stories of the kids at the orphanage was a profit of sorts.

My wife collects a certain line of Christmas ornament -- I can understand that, as they have a permanence to them. They are put on display every year, and a few are kept out as household decorations.

But stuffed animals don't have that same sense of longevity (at least to me). And I'm not a collector by nature. So I'm doubly curious about the attraction of owning hundreds of little stuffed animals?

Well, myself and a couple friends got into them together. Not really sure exactly how. I think one of my friends had gotten one as a gift from someone. So once we realized that some of them are worth money (or were back then anyway), we started collecting them. I think it became something for us to do. We lived in a pretty boring neighborhood in a rather boring town, so searching for the newest Beanie Babies gave us something to do for awhile.
