The Trials And Tribulations Of An Air-Traffic Controller At JFK International

I sometimes like to listen to Live Air-Traffic Control from major international airports, and "JFK", the busy aerodrome in New York City, is certainly one of the best for non-stop, bumper-to-bumper runway action. And sometimes things don't always go so smoothly up in the tower...or down on the jam-packed taxiways:

"Somebody didn't do somethin' right. .... Now I'm all screwed up. .... You guys ought to come up here and try this one day; you'd enjoy the show." .....

But some days are great fun up in the tower (especially at Philadelphia International [PHL]):

There's always my favorite..

I'm a huge fan of channel 9 on United (live ATC) - there are definitely times when you can tell the stress of the job comes close to getting to the controllers.

I started to listen to the live feed the other night and was hooked. Most of the stuff is pretty routine. Once in a while something unusual happens and it gets pretty entertaining. I really like the NYC accents that that some of the controllers have.

As a frequent flyer, the less I know about things like this, the better.

Perhaps this is internet-worthy to you, but a lot of people lost loved ones that day. Sleep well.

Yeah, I was working ground that day. Not entertaining.

Man... I thought my mom had raised the guilt trip to an art form, but I think we have a new master .

Yeah, no kidding.

Geesh.

No kidding what? You think there's an expiration date on the loss of family members?

I'm glad that the memory of that tragedy brought you a chuckle, but perhaps in the future you'll refrain from the urge to share your insensitivity with the rest of the world.

Why on this Earth would ANYONE think I was "chuckling" when I posted the United 93 audio? (Unbelievable.)

Maybe you should re-think your (incorrect) kneejerk retort.

If you truly think that I am "insensitive" about one of the worst tragedies in U.S. history, I invite you to read the following review:
