What's Going on With Netflix's New Design?

I noticed today that Netflix has changed the design of the website a bit. However, the new queue page has me somewhat confused.

First, the availability column is mostly blank for me, except for a couple of titles that do show a short wait. Also, the disc formats for the titles in my queue are gone.

Is anyone else noticing this. Is this the way it will stay?

They have been making changes (I guess that is why they were out on Monday).

As for the queue, I believe everything that is blank in the availability area are the titles that are available now. At least that is the way it is in my queue. All the ones that were NOW last week are blank, while the short wait, very long wait, and releasing soon all have that written in that field.

What about the ability to choose your disc format preference in the queue. For example if a BD title I want has a very long wait, I might just want to toggle to DVD. That capability does not seem to be there at the moment.

I called and spoke with a Netflix rep two days ago and he did confirm there are a number of changes in progress at present. The blank availability area does signify a title in stock and ready to ship. The disc format list will be coming back when this whole process completes. He wouldn't be held to date but he thought in 1 to 2 weeks at most. HD DVD as expected is either phased out for new titles or is being phased out.

Re: What's Going on With Netflix's New Design?

This is another example of Marketing Folks making a website less useful.

You can't even find a list of new releases anymore. You can only find a list of newer movies that they have in stock. I challenge anyone to find the new "I am Legend" movie without typing in the name of the movie in the search. You can't because it is a "Long Wait" item. I don't care if it is a long wait, I still want see it and add it to my queue.

The site is going way down hill. There is less and less information and more of them "pushing" the movies they have the most "in stock".

Sigh. Why do websites feel the need to constantly fill pages with more graphics and less information?

I agreed with your comment...they changed the New Release info a few weeks ago. However, if you sign up for the RSS feed for New Releases you can get updates DAILY. Rarely does a week go by where they don't add additional New Releases after the big update on Sunday.

Heaven forbid you have to type 9 letters and 2 spaces.

isnt it easier to direct search a title then try and go through a list of releases anyway.

That's true if you are looking for a specific movie, but I am big on indie/foreign/documentaries so the New Release RSS feed is a MUST!

I went through the same thing when they dropped the old "New Release" link that they posted on Sundays with all the titles divided up by category. This is basically the same thing without the category listing and you can still click on a title to add to your queue.
