Is it worth it? Multi-disk changer vs.disk space

Sony's VGP XGL1B is capable of ripping 200 CDs, while I sleep. It works with Vista or MCE 2005 to gather album art and liner notes for both CDs and DVDs. It can house, and catalog 200 DVDs and (with Vista) act as a CD/DVD jukebox with a really cool interface that can be controlled with a remote.

I don't mind if it is loud, or if it takes time to locate one DVD in a 200-disc carousel. In fact I think that would be kinda cool... like a through back to a 1950's style jukebox.

Is there a downside to buying one of these? I know that disk space is cheap, but I don't want to waste time ripping DVDs. To me, this product sounds too good to be true. If there is a downside, please let me know. I found one for $200. Is it worth it?

Thanks for your feedback!

Jay:

From what I have read it is mostly for CDs and ripping them to your HD or using it as a jukebox for CD and DVD. As far as copying a DVD you aren't going to be able to copy a commercial DVDs but only DVDs that you have made your self.

With the ability to daisy chain up to 5 of them together you would have to get up to change out a CD or DVD for a long time. The only real drawback I can see it that it is not HDM ready.

For $200 it sounds like a good deal though.

Downside is that random play aka shuffle mode on a physical system will have gaps between the songs as the machine lumbers to get the next disc. If you rip everything to hard drives, you'll not only have no gaps but you'll get crossfades too.
