True enough, but how many people are going to associate the hubcaps with the show as opposed to the color scheme or the "camp" feel of the series? I'm thinking there's going to be people confusing this release with the 1989 Tim Burton film...
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
I have to applaud the folks at Fox.
That cover art is anything from what I expected it to be.
It seems likely that they made that cover as "vague" as
possible and very similar to that of the Warner movies.
In other words, if everything plays out as expected, people are
going to mistake this '60s title for the more recent films.
It's a brilliant cover if that was indeed the plan.
In any event, I have always been a fan of the '60s TV show
and this is a great, great film that showcases exactly what that
show was all about. I am very pleased Fox released this right
out of the gate.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Holy misleading cover art!
Okay not misleading in substance but in style. If someone unfamiliar with the 1960s TV series watches this expecting it to be stylistically related to the more recent films they are being set up for a disappointment. Although if Fox and DC would come to an agreement with the series proper...
Still, can't beat the idea of a DTS-HD music score. I hope this will be a recurring feature on Fox catalog titles.

I wonder if this could be considered a dig at Warner and the claims that an agreement can not be made over the tv show due to them not wanting to do anything to tarnish the current franchise (even though I think that claim is bullshit).
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Actually, our dollar is trading at 98.53 cents US as of earlier this afternoon, but on the whole, your point still stands. I don't mind books that were printed 18 months ago that are still on the shelves with the greater gap on the inner sleeve (hardcover) or on the back (paperback)--as long as the store has made an adjustment--but this is, frankly, insulting. It's not like the disc has to be wrapped in sheepskin to protect it from our winter or anything.

Even before I decided I didn't think it accurately reflected the tone of the film, I felt CERTAIN this was a deliberate ploy to confuse buyers. I'd bet at least a thousand dollars on it (virtual dollars, of course ).

Yeah but the hubcap is the thing that comes at the camera every time there is a scene transition. But I do see your point.

I'm not sure if it is a 'dig', but Warner Bros. concern over the Batman TV show tarnishing the current franchise is one of the few things more asinine than Fox's Blu-ray Disc MSRPs.

Really? I'd like to think most fans of Batman would see the big, goofy ass, red, chrome outlined bat symbol on top of black, as a tip off that this wasn't the Nicholson/Keaton film. Not to mention, Adam West and Burt Ward's names at the top above the title. Maybe that's just me.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Well... the "consumer confusion" isn't going to come from Batman/film fans who are going to pretty easily determine that this isn't a Burton Batman film. The group they're targeting is the one I call "my wife". To test this theory I showed the cover to my wife and asked here what movie it was and she very quickly said it was the first Tim Burton Batman movie. It's in that confusion that I could see her buying it for me not realizing that it wasn't the version she thought.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Anyone who is fooled into actually buying this because they think it is Batman '89 gets what they deserve, IMO.
I mean, I fully expect people to be fooled into picking up the package and looking it over with that initial thought. But is anybody really gonna just grab the package and buy it without reading the actor names or looking at the back of the box, which will surely have other Batman '66 pictures on it? Who does that?
No, what people not in the know will do is this:
1. See the cover, think it's Batman '89.
2. Pick up the package, look it over, see the actor names and the back of the package.
3. Realize it's Batman '66.
No one is gonna make it to the counter and waste money. Maybe - maybe - when renting.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
You'd be surprised at the number of CDs and DVDs I've gotten from well-meaning friends and family where exactly the kind of mistake you think is unlikely occurred. Over a dozen.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
I can see it happening sometimes when people are buying as gifts. I was talking about buying for yourself.
Even for gifts, though, it does surprise me that people are so oblivious to what they are actually buying. Then again, I've never been an "impulse" buyer. I guess impulse = do not look at product for more than 5 seconds.

This is exactly how I see it as well. Besides, I kind of like the new modern look they went with. It'll fit nicely with the other Batman films on Blu-ray I'm buying this year. Also, I don't remember there being any massive confussion when the serial collections came out. I remember one of them had a design style that could have easily been mistook as the first Burton Batman. I do agree a few will make the mistake and buy this, but, not on any hugh scale. Hell, it's arguable that only die hard fans will even invest in this given the price and those fans will know what the're getting without confussion.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
It's a marketing ploy. I'm sure that if any one of us sat down for 20 minutes and thought about it, he could come up with hundreds of examples of similar "deceptive advertising".
As someone else said, the real crime is Fox's MSRP.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
My parents are over 70 years old. I could easily see them buying this as a present for me without knowing which version of Batman it is, because they really are clueless when it comes to such things.
But then again, they know enough not to buy me anything of this type because I usually own it already.
Re: TCFHE Press Release: BATMAN: The Movie Special Edition (Blu-ray)
Sounds like my parents, although they're a li'l younger and would probably send me cash rather than run the risk of buying me something I already have.
