Massive Pillow Fight @ Union Square (NYC)

On Saturday, as we walked out of the Union Square subway station, my daughter and I were wondering why there was so much white stuff flying around and covering the floor and stairs. Looked like down and feathers.

The source of the mess was evident once we got out -- every other person was holding a pillow, in various states of damage. We asked this group of college kids what's going: a massive pillow fight, that way.

We looked at each other like "Pillow fight!" -- before grabbing the nearest pillows (tons laying around) and heading into the mayhem:

My biggest regret was that I didn't have a camera. But I saw a lot of people taking pictures of us, so I figure we had to show up on someone's gallery and sure enough, here we are:

The most FUN I've in ages. Sure beat the Easter Egg hunt thing to which we were heading. Only in NYC. (Well, not really, the thing is actually part of International Pillow Fight Day. But the NYC event was "organized" by these folks: NYC Pillow Fight 2008 - March 22)

Ahem.

Great picture! I especially like the guy in the Superman shirt in the distance.

Your daughter's a charmer.

Agreeing with Michael as to your daughter.

Then again, I’ve seen your picture at the World Cup. Her mom must be a real stunner to compensate,

I didn't know about it either!

There must have been a great clean-up crew, because I was at The Public on Saturday evening and took a cab through Union Square on the way home. By that point there certainly was no visible evidence of a massive pillow fight.

These guys, who I believe were volunteers, were doing the cleanup even as the madness was going on.

Re: Massive Pillow Fight @ Union Square (NYC)

I just heard about this yesterday on the radio. On our local radio they told us that people were being locked up for littering because of all the feathers on the ground. However looking at your pictures I don't see the cops giving anyone any trouble.

Doubt it. The police presence was impressive, and rightly so. There are always asshole trying to ruin the fun for everyone, like the idiots who cause them to shut it down way early this time by being excessively violent: a group of college kids in red jersey, especially did dude: Peter Drier's Photos - Apr 4'09 - Pillow Fight | Facebook (not my photo)

I think they were drunk. I was right next to them, right outside the frame, by the asian gal to the left (who is a friend). Caught the whole thing on tape actually.

There are TONS of video up on YouTube.
