Most disappointing abandoned dvd series

I never realized just how many shows that I really love have been abandoned or stalled. It's a much bigger list than I would have thought. Here are my top 10+ most disappointing abandonments:

1) LEAVE IT TO BEAVER (no doubt this one hurts the most)
2) HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL (halfway finished, what happened?)
3) BIG VALLEY (cut off right in the middle of a season - ridiculous)
4) VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA (1 Season short of finishing and they up and quit?!!!)
5) DANIEL BOONE (this one is stalled because of distribution problems - ughhh)
6) HAZEL
7) GREEN ACRES
8) PARTRIDGE FAMILY
9) THAT GIRL
10) QUINCY
11) MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW
12) BEVERLY HILLBILLIES
13) PETTICOAT JUNCTION
14) KOJAK
15) DISNEY TREASURES - SWAMP FOX & ELFAGO BACA
16) FLIPPER

And I could probably add "THE LONE RANGER" to the list because only one season was ever released (the 5th season) several years ago. But never any follow up. There are probably a few other 70's shows I could have added, but I've already listed far more than I expected when I started this reply. It's really shocking that there are so many abandoned shows out there.

Right. I was aware of that because I monitor Brian's posts at the Shout! boards. But since he couldn't give a definitive date I felt I could place it here. It may not be officially "abandoned", but it is definitely sitting in limbo. And those type releases should be included.

For me, the biggest one will always be The Larry Sanders Show. Another heartbreaker is Leave It To Beaver.

Mine are Murphy Brown and SCTV. At least SCTV has several volumes out.....Murphy Brown only got one - that really pisses me off.

Unquestionably for me it's THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW.

King of the Hill is the most crushing for me. I'd also have to say Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (if it has been abandoned for sure) and Malcolm in the Middle

Re: Most disappointing abandoned dvd series

For me it's the Mary Tyler Moore Show, followed closely by the Bob Newhart Show (I would've included Barney Miller, but it looks like Sony is giving it another shot). I'm also really disappointed that there won't be future DVD releases of This Is Wonderland or Made in Canada, but at least I have both series on DVD-R.

Limbo should not be considered the same as "abandoned." Until Marlo Thomas complains that the show was abandoned by Shout Factory;
I wouldn't make it sound like fact that this series is dead at three.

They haven't completely given up on the series since they are floating the first DVD of the first boxset on May 6 as a solo release.

although if people want to beef up the sales, amazon has all three seasons for $22.99 each

For me it's Here Come the Brides, The Outer Limits (1990s series), and The Partridge Family. Of these three The Outer Limits happens to be the one I want to own the most.

While my thread title only says "abandoned" because of space restriction, you'd see I'm also talking about shows that are "suspended" or "stalled" or "in limbo" if you read my first post carefully. So it's not just about shows that have been out and out "abandoned." Heck, the studios almost never even own up to a series being completely abandoned anyhow, even though it's pretty obvious most of the ones I and other folks here have mentioned are indeed abandoned or at least severely stalled.

Forgot "NAKED CITY" (the first season of half hour episodes) and "RIFLEMAN" on my personal list. And a continuation of "DRAGNET" and "CHEYENNE" would have been nice too.

When you think about it, this really is a disturbing trend that's far more widespread than I first realized when I started composing my first post on the subject. And I agree with the person that talked about consumer confidence being eroded when this happens with the frequency that it has.

If the first set doesn't sell that well, why can't they put out the rest of it as a bog standard set at a slightly higher price for a limited time? & at least give those who want it the chance to buy it. As it is they're just pissing off their customers.

Why Happy Days? CBS/Paramount has been awesome at releasing the past couple seasons in a timely manner. Season 4 of Laverne and shirley is coming out, why wouldn't sn4 of Happy days make it?

Re: Most disappointing abandoned dvd series

Great lists here. I have a lot of the same ones for my list.

ADAM-12 "1-Adam 12....a 59686 in progress..abandonment of a classic show"
ALIAS SMITH AND JONES? Maybe not dead
BARNEY MILLER? 4 more years until S3?
BIG VALLEY Same as Gary. Hard to believe it's cut off in the middle of a split-season release
FLIPPER starting to look like Flipper' s lost at sea
GREEN ACRES Who's running this release...Hank Kimball?
HILL STREET BLUES
HAPPY DAYS I also think Hank's right about this one.
LEAVE IT TO BEAVER I want S5 & 6 BAD
NAKED CITY I have the box sets but I'd get a complete-season release
RIFLEMAN same as N.C.; I'd get a complete set
THE ROOKIES
WELCOME BACK KOTTER ? maybe there's hope
WHO'S THE BOSS I think this one's history

Re: Most disappointing abandoned dvd series

Sony has abandoned almost everything. It seems they are more concerned now about putting out shows on hulu.com, which has seasons of several Sony shows that have not seen the light of day on DVD. In fact, if successful, I fear this trend could hurt the TV On DVD industry.

As for my disappointments, I am sad to see no more of the following:
The Lone Ranger
Larry Sanders
Fall Guy
Bob Newhart
Drew Carey
