HD70 Getting Darker

I have a HD70 projector with just over 600 hours on it. It is projecting onto a 113" Screen Goo screen. Lately it seems that the picture is too dark. Not just on one movie, but on many I have been watching, during indoor or night scenes, I find it difficult to see expressions on the faces. I checked the calibration with the Avia and it needed a minor adjustment, but it still looks too dark. My wife & kids don't think there is an issue though. Any thoughts?

Don't you have to replace the bulb every so often? From what I remember, it's every 200 to 300 hrs. ?? What does the manual say?

Thank the lord we don't have to change them every 300 hours...lol

It seems way to soon for it to be dimming enough to cause problems. The fact that the rest of your family can't tell may mean it is time to see the eye Dr.

2,000 - 3,000 hours is the life span.

That thought crossed my mind also, but I don't think so. I don't even need glasses. The rest of the family thinks that they are just dark scenes. I don't think they would know what to look for anyway. I remember more detail when it was new though. I had just upgraded from a 4850 and I was impressed by how I could make out the folds in a Jedi's black robe. Now I can't.

Maybe it's just a bad bulb. Short life span. Infant mortality sort of thing.

Re: HD70 Getting Darker

Even with my DLP rear projector, dimming was a warning that the bulb was nearing the end of its life. In my case with my Samsung it got really dark and then 2 weeks later there was a loud "bang", smoke came out the back, and the picture went dead. Yeah, it was a bulb failure with lots of broken glass to clean up.

That dimming is your warning that it's time to go online and shop for a replacement bulb. After my Samsung bulb blew up, I had merely to go to the spare parts closet, clean out the debris in my set, and install the new bulb/carrier.
