Having a problem completely removing a program

Thread Starter
I made the mistake of installing the latest version of a
software program that didn't end up working as well as
an earlier.

After using APPZAPPER to completely uninstall version 3
I was not allowed to install version 2 because the installer
was detecting that version 3 was still installed.

I tried looking through LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT but
did not immediately find any remnants. I even rebooted
and tried installing the older version once more.

So, question is, where should I be looking deep in the
inner bowls of my system to find the files that still remain.

Thanks

Ron
Look in preferences (both libraries - user and drive) and documents in case it made a folder for the app.
Last ditch effort use spotlight and search for any relating keyword.

Good Luck

Re: Having a problem completely removing a program

Eric,

Appreciate the help. Unfortunately, no, there is nothing listed
that starts with the name of the program or the company that
makes it. No folders in the documents area either.

Something is hidden in my system that I need to find.

Wish I knew where to do the old show pkg contents for ya. Hmmm?
Did it make an application enhancer pref pane (preferences pane folder in system/library)
these can have an Abbreviated name

Normally snooping folders in the library will do it.

Re: Having a problem completely removing a program

Ronald, try this program Easyfind to search using the program name. Be sure to set it to search "Macintosh HD" first. Pay close attention to filename, type and location by mousing over each results. If you find anything left by it's name you can right-click and either "move to trash" or "open enclosing folder".

After Leopard changed it's spotlight search window from how it was in Tiger (omitting Library in overall search) I started using Easyfind to search and manually remove apps. I have AppZapper and AppCleaner but prefer doing it manually. Plus Appzapper doesn't appear to be 100% compatible with Leopard. It just searches and never stops if I click the "genie lamp" button.

Re: Having a problem completely removing a program

Daryl,

I bow to you. I am not worthy!

Installed Easy Find and had it check all volumes.

It found an install package in the /library folder that Spotlight
did not see.

I deleted it, and now I can install the older version.

You made my day!

Re: Having a problem completely removing a program

I'm glad it helped you. Hey, I owed you. It was your posts around a year ago that actually encouraged me to Seriously start consider switching to a mac.

P.S. I just tried the genie lamp in AppZapper and now it works. No idea why it wouldn't the previous time I tried it after getting my MBP in February.

Re: Having a problem completely removing a program

Most applications will install a package in /Library/Receipts/ or ~/Library/Receipts/ Always make sure you delete the package from an associated app from those locations.
