Amazon, Barnesandnoble.com and many other online sellers began taking pre-orders today, Monday 3/17.

Digital Bits reports/confirms May 27 as the release date. Prelistings confirm (so far) three years worth of shorts in "The Three Stooges Collection Vol. 2: 1937 - 1939."

An official Sony press release is still pending.

Just in time for my birthday! My son loved the first volume so this one will be a must.

Re: Three Stooges Vol. 2 1937-1939

I was at Best Buy yesterday to see if I could pick up a copy of the Woody Woodpecker and Friends Volume 2. I found not only one copy, but a least a dozen and most of them were located in the new release area. It made me think that Sony needs to work on their placement of the Three Stooges Collection Volume 2. When volume 1 came out I hunted through many brick and mortar stores and could not find it and eventually Amazoned it. I was also on the phone with several out of town friends trying to locate it and they could not find it either. If Best Buy, Barnes and Noble and Borders can find a way to have several copies of Woody Woodpecker, surely Sony can convince them to carry the Volume Two of the Stooges Collection. The sales would have to be better and I have to think Three Stooges has to be more popular than Woody Woodpecker.

As for Sony/Columbia and the next Volume of Three Stooges, I am waiting to pick that up as well, but other that this forum, or possibly TCM or Maltin mentioning something about it on Reelz Channel. How much market push will it really get? Sony needs to work on getting the many PD crap sets out of the market as possible, especially if the material that is on them is not in the Public Domain to begin with.

As an afterthought, a lot of Sony/Columbia’s Classics are not marketed very well, that could be part of the problem. I think the only set I have really seen any thing on was the Frank Capra set. And low and behold it was because it was a category on Jeopardy. Maybe Sony might want to tie that in with this new release. Hell one round could be all stooge related at least for the category names, how many people watch this nightly, great way to get it out in the public eye.

Sony may not have much control on the PD versions (pretty much the same 6 shorts recycled over & over).

However, as I mentioned elsewhere, Sony does have control on the over 20 + single DVD versions they released prior to these box sets. Twenty titles!!! That is huge.

When Volume 1 was released, I had to go to three stores to find a copy. Yet, Sony's inadequate single disc versions were everywhere.

Having said that, I actually applaud Sony for their remastering efforts on Volume 1, and I'll be first in line (if I can find a copy) when Volume 2 is released.
