Best screen paint for Mitsubishi HD1000u?

Sorry if this has been asked a dozen times already - I tried the search but only could find questions about buying that model, is it better than this model, etc.

I'm moving next month and have a chance to design a perfect HT room beforehand so I'm just looking to the experts first so I can get it as close to perfect as possible.

I have a HD1000u and a windowless basement so I can get the room as dark as needed. I'm looking at some screen paint but can't decide if I need high contrast white, light silver, silver, etc. I'd like to project a 130-140" screen if I can make it look good at that size. The room is white right now but there's a good chance I'll get to paint it a dark color.

Right now I have it on a 110" screen I got online for $100 after shipping. It's bright white with a bunch of tiny glass beads glued to it. It looks really good, but there seems to be room for improvement on low brightness movies and games.

I've had it for almost a year now so I understand the most basic issues I'm going to run into, but I'm not sure what the weaknesses with my model are. Should I be more worried about contrast or brightness or color accuracy?

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, this isn't a basic question. There is no "best". There is best that fits your situation and goals.

Check out the DIY screen sections at Home Theater Shack and AVS Forums. You will find hundreds of paint from off the shelf colors to custom colors with custom applications. Be prepared for weeks of reading.

And I'm looking at trying the Shack formula with the aluminum paint added.

I also own the HD1000, and I would stick with the white screen(especially since you want such a big screen). The best thing you could do to improve your image is to paint the walls and ceiling a dark color, in a flat finish.

I agree. I own the Sanyo PLV-Z5 and currently project a 150" screen using brite white paint. While I'm sure my picture isn't perfect, it suits my needs and good source material [especially HDM when I auditioned it] looks awesome. BTW- I covered the walls with dark velvet fabric and painted the ceiling the same color and it made a huge difference. Check out "My Home Theater" using the below link.

I highly recommend the Goosystems paint. It is made for painting screens and I have used it with great results in several installations now.

They have formulas that work for different lighting conditions and PJ's. Try the calculator to find the right match. Goo Systems
