New Route 66 pkg coming in May - Page 2

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

Like everyone else, I'm happy to hear that the problems with Part 2 of Season One are going to be corrected on the Full Season set. But I'd be very surprised if they also use better prints for the first part of Season One. Because the widescreening of Part 2 was a mistake that happened when the DVD was being made, so correcting it should be relatively easy. In order to correct the problems with Part 1, they'd have to find the better prints for all of those episodes and make new transfers. That seems like a lot of work, and based on this company's track record, I just don't see them going that extra mile. Of course, I'd be happy to be wrong about this!

Fix the cut episode and I'll be happy. The quality was not as much of an issue for me as it was for many people.

For me it's more of an issue of principle than anything else. Roxbury said that the first set's poor episodes were a mistake and didn't need to happen. They had access to better materials, which is clear when you look at the episodes on the second set. They are nearly pristine. So if they are going to really do right by the consumers the least they can do is fix the first half of the season.

I might buy the set even without the first half fix if I find a great deal, but generally I'm opposed to double-dipping.

Gary "here's hoping both portions of this first season are fixed" O.

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

Yes, I'm sure it has nothing to do with "finding prints" at this point -- clearly they're accessing Sony's elements now. It's merely a question of whether they want to go to the expense of fixing the first half as well as the second (assuming the reports about the latter are accurate). It seems silly to me that they'd make the laudable effort to correct the widescreen issue and then not go all the way to making it a truly desirable package. But whatever: if the aspect ratio bungle and "A Fury Slinging Flame" are fixed, I can live with the mediocre image quality on the first 15. The best episodes come in the middle seasons anyway. Let's just hope Roxbury has some customers left by then.

Don't want to burst anyone's bubble but it appears that Guy Foulard's earlier post about the postponement of the complete season 1 is true. I checked Infinity's online catalog this morning and it's no longer showing.

It's still posted on Amazon, complete with packaging and a May 20th release date.

Wasn't that post about Season 2, Volume 1, and not the complete season 1?

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

Guy said both new DVDs were indefinitely postponed.
Bob Hug replied and said the Full Season One was still listed on Infinity's website.
I just checked the Deep Discount site. The full Season One DVD is still listed, but you can no longer preorder it. It now says "Not Available" or something to that effect.

Boy, this whole Route 66/Infinity thing is a real soap opera!

Infinity has never listed season 2, volume 1 on its web site (at least that portion of their site that's available for viewing by the general public), but had listed the complete season 1 for a number of months and as late as yesterday. Season 2, volume 1 has been listed by a few online retailers, however. I've notified Dave Lambert at TSOD and he's attempting to find out about the status of "Route 66" from Infinity. Dave mentioned that the complete series release of "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon," which was also supposed to have been released by Infiinity but has been removed from their web site, was another title that he was going to check on.

As a side note, season 3 of "The Real McCoys" is still showing a release date of June 17th at Infinity's site, as well as a May 20th release date for the complete "Dangerous Assignment" series, which was previously released in two volumes by Infinity's predecessor Critics Choice.

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

Well, being an optimist, hopefully this means they're going the whole nine yards on the complete season 1 release and fixing what was wrong with S.1 V.1. And maybe they've decided to go the complete season route from now on, hence no S.2 V.1. But I'm just being an optimist...

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

I too hope the removal of a complete S1 is because Infinity has to correct the previous volumes' technical errors in order to give fans a proper and complete S1 release (and future releases). At least TSOD is looking into it for us!

Re: New Route 66 pkg coming in May

Hello, does anyone have any solid evidence that this will have remastered first season half and corrected Full Frame part 2? I don't want to order this and waste my money!

No one knows anything at this point and even if someone said they knew I wouldn't take their word for it. Let's wait until it comes out or someone gets review copies and then we can make our decisions. Anything beyond that is just going to be hearsay

"Route 66" update from TVShowsonDVD.com; Dave Lambert's article will clear up some of the confusion regarding the availability of the sets.

I'm feeling better and better about them possibly fixing the first set A/V quality!

Like with Naked City I'm a newcomer to looking at the season/volume sets for Route 66 in more detail. So the faults have been corrected for the rereleased first season set of Route 66?

I haven't seen anyone report that.

I was referring to the aspect ratio of the episodes.

The incorrect aspect ratio? Both volumes of the first season of Route 66 were re-released as a complete first season set.

What happened?  Is season 4 ever getting released?

Looks doubtful, almost 2 yrs since last release of Season 3.  However VTTBOTS took about that long to release the final episodes, so there is still some hope I suppose.  Ditto for the last season of The Untouchables.
