Panasonic DMP-BD50 RAM storage for Internet? +

I'm comparing these competitive Blu-Ray players to be release in 2008 based on info at blu-ray.com:
  • Panasonic DMP-BD50 (release date: "spring" of 2008 $700)
  • Sony BDP-S350 (release date: "summer" of 2008 $400)
  • Sony BDP-S550 (release date: "fall" of 2008 $500)

After talking to an audio engineer buddy who has built his own home theater, he mentioned,

"And keep in mind that the Sony 550 comes with 1 GB of local RAM storage; the Panasonic BD50 and the Sony 350 may require purchasing extra storage. The RAM is used for dynamic memory and storage or buffer for Web-based supplements (and possibly disc-based Java supplements)."

Question 1) I'm wondering how much local RAM storage the Sony S350 and the Panny BD50 will have to accommodate Web-based supplements. Anyone know?

Question 2) If anyone hears of a report or review of the Panasonic BD50's upconversion quality of Standard DVDs (for which the prior 2007 Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray Player was notably deficient), can you post your thoughts or links to reviews?

cool beans,

Jim

Got an answer today 06/10 regarding memory for the Panny:

"The BD50 is now shipping, with SRP of $699.95-
The unit uses SD card to meet the BD Live standards of 1 Gig of memory

So the next question is: if we're dealing with SD, is the SD slot in the BD50 SDHC compatible? I'm the kind of guy who can never have enough storage, so if I can cram an 8GB SDHC card in the BD50, I'll be a happy camper.

If you haven't found out already, the BD-50 will take SDHC cards up to 32G.
