Why so many different 50" Plasmas by Panasonic?

I am looking at the following models:

Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV TH-50PZ85U
Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV TH-50PZ77U
Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV TH-50PZ750
Panasonic 50" 1080p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV TH-50PZ700U

The Z85U is the thinnest, lightest, newest with a '30000:1' contrast ratio with a 'universal remote'. There is no 'digital convergence'

However, the latter two have 4 speakers versus the former two with 2 speakers.

Which would be the better value?

Value is determined by what meets your needs and budget. Study the specifications, features and cost. Compare those elements to your requirements and you'll have your answer. They make an assortment of models to appeal to a variety of buyers in the market. The buyer is the only one who can identify which is the best value for them.

Patrick- Thanks for the comparison info. Turns out, someone I know is looking at these very displays! I have a pro unit, and even I can't figure out all the consumer models now...

Is it worth waiting on the 800 series?

I don't game. But I am probably getting the PS3 for Blu-ray and some games.

Rick:

I think it is worth getting the 80 or 85. Both have deep color, x.v.color. The 85 does 24p (2:3) for a more natural look for film on a monitor. And Panasonic has lowered the MSRP on these newer sets so the starting selling point for them is really nice.

Thanks. I went for the 85. The 850 is just a little too much technology (wireless connectivity, THX sound, yada, yada, yada) AND it wouldn't be available until the fall or late summer.

Rick:

Tell us what you think of your 85. It sounds like a great piece.
