Sony VPL-HS51 Projector Problem (Picture inside)

Hello everybody!

Recently, I have been noticing some discoloration from my projector. I was under the impression that the cause of the problem was the lamp. I purchased a replacement lamp from B&H (Lamp model LMP-H130) and followed the steps in the manual for replacing the lamp.

After turning the projector back on, the discoloration did not improve. Can someone help me diagnose this?

(File has been attached)

Thank you in advance,

I posted the image and link for you and increased your post count so you can post links now.

Is the black area what you are seeing the problem?

Re: Sony VPL-HS51 Projector Problem (Picture inside)

Parker,

Thank you very much! Actually, it is the "blue cloud" image that I am speaking of. Here is a better picture:

The black portion is the proper image and the bluish cloud is not. It is always present. The size of the "cloud" continously grows. Even when I switch between the old and new lamp, the cloud remains exactly the same.

Thanks again Parker,

Odd. I will ask a couple of our ISF guys to weigh in here.

Re: Sony VPL-HS51 Projector Problem (Picture inside)

This thread interests me greatly. At work we have a pair of Liesegang projectors, 5000 lumens, 1024x768. Very nice DLPs. One of them has a blue "snot" mark hanging from the top-left corner, very much like your blue cloud.

The mark can be seen as a discoloration in almost all scenes, and a blue glow (think nuclear power cherenkov glow) when it should be black.

My first guess was that something funny had happened. My next thought was: dirty optics? slipped filter? color wheel? really awful batch of stuck pixels?

I'll let you know if I find out...

hi guys
this looks like a some kind of panel failure....nothing at all bulb related.

Isn't your set an LCD type? I was thinking along the lines of what Gregg said in that it looks more like a panel problem. Like it is out of alignment or going bad. I would take it in to a Sony repair place and have them look it over and give you a heads up as to what they think is going on.

Parker, Greg, Chuck, thank you very much for shedding some light on this problem. I had purchased a 2 year warranty when I bought the unit, so it should still be covered.

As soon as it is repaired, I will post up more information regarding the failure. Hopefully this information can help others will similar problems.

Thanks again,
James

Re: Sony VPL-HS51 Projector Problem (Picture inside)

I have the same problem. Same projector and exact same problem. No children around and I can guarentee that it's never been jarred or impacted in any way. I've recently tried a new bulb as well with the same result. If you find a solution to this problem, please post. Unfortunately, mine is out of warranty. Thanks. I hope we can resolve this.

Ditto to Snowmahn. However, in addition to the blue smear, I now have black scribbles that have morphed into large black lines as my back drop. Also tried a new bulb and no luck. Also out of warranty.

Re: Sony VPL-HS51 Projector Problem (Picture inside)

hi
it is not the bulb
these issues are extremely well known to manufacturers that are using LCD and LCOS panels.
If it is a sony unit, chances are Sony will still honor the warranty (or extend the warranty).
New LCD units now advertise " inorganic" panels which are supposively more stable.
