Very cool stuff. I don't recall most of the items here, although I do remember the trading cards. Could those have come later, around the time of the animated show?
Looking over those boxes of the Remco toys, was Spock more popular than Kirk at that time?  There seem to many more drawings of him than Kirk.
Could be. There's a Carol Burnett Show sketch that aired when TOS was still on with Nimoy appearing in full makeup. And Nimoy cut a record album, (with songs and readings in character) before Shatner ever did!

According to the making of TMP book, somebody at the network actually floated the idea of a Spock spinoff after the series was cancelled, but Roddenberry thought a show exclusively about Vulcans would not be as interesting.
Yes, Nimoy's Spock had some breakout appeal and sometimes got more fan mail than Shatner. If you read Star Trek:The Real Story it tells about the realization that Spock was getting to be a more popular character than Kirk and the friction it caused with Shatner and Nimoy.

If we are still quizing about what people said on Star Trek, we know that Spock called Kirk "Jim" in Amok Time but there is at least another episode where Spock called Kirk "Jim". Which episode?

Michael,

How about The Menagerie?  I think there is another as well.
Yes, I was thinking of the another one where he said it. But yes, I remember it did happen in The Menagerie too. See if you can guess the show I am thinking about.

Michael,

How about The City On the Edge of Forever?  I just saw this one about two weeks ago.
Yes, COTEOF as well, but I am still thinking of another one. He said it more than I thought. In this case, he said it on the bridge.
It was This Side of Paradise? But I don't think it was on the Bridge. So I was thinking it could also be The Naked Time.

There seems to be a few times and I can't place it! I know he said it in The Search for Spock!

Naw, the episode I was thinking of guys is "Balance Of Terror" and struck me funny because it sounded casual for Spock

"the exact heading a Romulan vessel would take Jim, towards the neutral zone, and home."
Oh yeah, of course! Good question!

Michael,

That was a fun question.  Coincidentally, I will be watching that episode next Monday night.  A friend is visiting, and that is his favorite TOS episode. :)

Michael,

Shall I go next?  I did give you an episode, although it wasn't the one you were thinking of.  At the very least, we learned that there were a few more episodes in which Spock calls his Captain, "Jim."

Here goes: Without peeking, can anyone tell me in which TOS episode Spinelli and Tooley are featured?
Well, I know but only because I cheated. Let's see if anyone else can get it.

But how about this?

Which third season episode used a stock shot from "City On The Edge Of Forever"?
Scott, I think it was Space Seed when Kirk was doing the Captain's log giving commendations to crew members right before he passes out.

Michael, I'll have to ponder that one!
For another quote.

"Why thank you, Captain McCoy!"
That's an easy one Chuck! I'll let someone else answer though.

Chuck,

Wasn't that from The Immunity Syndrome?

Nelson,

Correct!  Well done.
It's actually a couple third season episodes. When you ponder, think about what could be used as stock footage from City.

Thanks Scott! And I got your PM, thanks. I'll reply shortly.

Michael, I think I got your other question about stock footage from COTEOF.

I believe stock footage was used when Kirk was viewing images of the planet's past on the viewers for the Atavacron in All Our Yesterdays.
You could be right (haven't compared the stock footage) but I was thinking of something entirely different.

Okay, more pondering is in order then!

Nelson,

I was finally able to respond (Beatles stuff) to your PM.  Sometimes, I can't post or PM from home (good old dial-up).

Michael,

With your question in mind, I watched TCOTEOF last night -- and I still don't have an answer.  But I too will ponder it a bit more. :)

Okay, here's another 'who spoke this line' question.

Name who said it, and in what episode:

"That's problematical, sir."
Scotty in The Changling in reply to Kirk asking if the shields can take another hit from Nomad.

That's one of my favorite first acts in Star Trek.

Chuck,

Okay, thanks.  I thought I had that one right.

Nelson,

Not quite.  It's actually this:

Scotty in The Changling in reply to Kirk asking if the shields can take another shot from Nomad.

;)  Just having fun -- perhaps too much fun, as Sisko would say to Dax in Trials and Tribble-ations.

You're up next.

Scott, let me know if you want the answer. Here 's a clue

the stock footage involves something seen a lot on Star Trek

Michael,

I actually forgot to ask you something about your question the other night, and was reminded of it when I saw The City On the Edge Of Forever recently.  Does the stock footage involve any of the planet shots or shots of the Enterprise?
