Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Okay, next question:

Name two instances whereby the name of a character is Tracy (or Tracey) in TOS. These characters are from two different episodes. See if you can do it without looking it up. Good luck!

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Good question. I know that there was a Captain Ronald Tracy of the Exeter. I'll have to think on the other one.

Nelson,

Yep, that's one. The other one is a bit tougher, but not that tough for Nelson -- a true gamester.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Okay, I thought about this one overnight. If this Tracy character was on TOS, I have not recalled who it is yet! But I have an idea, could it have been the little girl from And the Children Shall Lead? It's an episode I don't watch, so it's a logical guess! The other possibility is the engineer from The Alternative Factor, another one I don't watch too frequently. The one who Lazarus steals the dilithium from.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Just curious, was the Tracy I mentioned above the one? If not I'll cheat soon and look it up!

Nelson,

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. I actually had to do a topic search to bring it up for some reason.

No, your two guesses are incorrect. One hint: The Tracy I'm looking for is a female, but not a child.

Thanks Scott! Okay, 2 down. I'll keep pondering this one.

Nelson,

Here is a very slight hint (obscure, but still somewhat relevant): Rigel.

A-ha! It must have been the Yeoman who beams down to take a tricorder test on Scotty in Wolf in the Fold.

Nelson,

Correct! It's Karen Tracy, from Wolf in the Fold. Well done. You're up next.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Hi Scott- Thanks! That was a really good question. I'll take a couple of days and think of another question.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

While we wait:

You nerds can probably name every character in that scene (I say affectionately).

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I'm not sure if I can see Mr. Barris, but I think he's behind Spock.

That's terrific Greg! Where did you find that?

(Looks like they did not use Kirk's green wrap around tunic though)

It was posted on a hobby site for Easter, not Trek.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

While we wait for Nelson, another amusing Trek picture for you to use:

Let's make it a trivia: without looking, what episode is that from?

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I'm still working a question!

That's a good one Greg. I recognize the sequence, but I won't hazard a guess yet.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I hope it's not seen as taking your turn. It just seemed logical to ask the question with the picture.

I don't know the answer off hand, but I will think about it for a while. Funny though, whenever I see Geordi around that part of the core, I hear his "Coolant leak!" line.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I heard the same line Scott!

Greg, your question is great, it gives me more time to think of a good question!

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I'm not sure if this has been a question yet.

When was the first time Dr. McCoy utters his famous line, "I'm a Doctor, not a ....."

And as extra credit, can anyone name the film from which this running gag was lifted from? (I only just learned about this and was surprised by it.)

There are variants, more then I realized throughout the run of TOS. What I am looking for is the first time McCoy says the line exactly as written above.

It will be interesting to hear Karl Urban utter this line.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Nelson,
I'm going to guess here, for what it's worth, and say "Devil in the Dark". I recently watched these remasters and don't remember it, in that context, before that episode.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

That was fast Troy! Since it's so late, I'll wait to see if there are anymore responses before I say if you're right or not.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

No problem Just an aside, Am I the only one on pins and needles waiting for this film? Hey guys, not to stray to far off trivia but Burger King is going to have collector character glasses for the new ST film. Not 100% sure but there might be some cool kids meal toys as well. I'm geekin out and not ashamed to admit it!

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Nelson,

Well, at first glance, I think Troy is correct. Devil in the Dark is a fairly early episode, and Bones does say it like you have it written, yes?

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Yes, you are both correct, it was Devil in the Dark! Troy was first, so he can take a stab at the next question. Very good!

As for the second bonus question, in case anyone is interested, the origin of McCoy's catch phrase as quoted from Memory Alpha:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
While the character of Dr. McCoy inarguably made the phrase "I'm a doctor ..." part of the common lexicon, he was not the first fictional doctor, or even the first character on the big screen, to coin the phrase. In the 1933 American film The Kennel Murder Case, Dr. Doremus, the coroner at the scene of the titular crime, states "I'm a doctor, not a magician," and "I'm a doctor, not a detective," within five minutes of his first appearance. It is unclear whether these particular dialog artifacts were progenitors of McCoy's famous phrase.

By the way, I am also eagerly awaiting the new film. I still have the glasses from Taco Bell for Star Trek 3! Though I doubt I'll be getting the Burger King stuff.....

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

I think Geordi's "coolant leak" bit is from "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1". Him yelling that into the camera always amuses me. By the way, the answer to my trivia question was Brian Brophy. I just thought it was cool that the guy who ultimately makes the decision to free Morgan Freeman's character in "The Shawshank Redemption" is the same guy who tries to take away Data's freedom in "The Measure of a Man" by forcing him to be disassembled for study. When I made the connection, I couldn't help but wonder if he was cast in that movie as an ironic wink to TNG fans.

Here's a trivia question: What are the last two words spoken in "Star Trek"? When you think about Rodenberry's original vision of the future as a more idealized place, they're actually very appropriate, although I think it's only a coincidence that they ended up being the last words of the series, as that episode (unlike "All Good Things..." or "What You Leave Behind") obviously wasn't written to be the series finale.

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Are you asking of the last words spoken on Star Trek TOS?

"If Only".

Re: Star Trek Trivia (Series and Films)

Yes, I was, and you're right. Well done.
